Community activities kick off Ladies Masters week on the Gold Coast
Golf Queensland has kicked off the community engagement activities in the lead up to the RACV Ladies Masters, starting on Thursday at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.
Golf Queensland will engage with over 2,000 juniors throughout the week, incorporating visits to a number of schools on the Gold Coast, including Robina State High School, William Duncan State School and Merrimac State School.
ALPG Professionals Lauren Hibbert and Adrianna Brent assisted students during the clinics at William Duncan State School on Tuesday morning, along with RACV Royal Pines Golf Coach, Loic Truet.
William Duncan State School Physical Education Teacher, Jason Raffin, said it was good to see the students enthusiastic about golf.
“Golf Queensland has been very supportive in the promotion of the sport at our school and on the Gold Coast,” Mr Raffin said.
“I was given a MyGolf starter pack for the school after completing my Community Golf 1 Coaching Course and it has been instrumental in introducing the students to golf.”
A ‘Behind the Ropes’ experience will take place at Royal Pines Resort on Friday, where students from Hills International School will tour the media centre, have an opportunity to talk with the stars, attend a clinic, learn about career pathways in golf and watch the players in action on-course.
The free MyGolf Junior Zone will be set up on the grassed area in front of the clubhouse over the weekend, open from 9am – 2pm Saturday and Sunday. There will be chipping targets, putting practice and other fun activities available, using the latest MYGolf and SNAG equipment.
Golf Queensland Development Officer, Lee Harrington who is coordinating the week’s activities, said the week isn’t just about watching top level golf, but also about giving it a go.
“With tournaments such as the Ladies Masters on, it is a great opportunity to promote the game of golf in the community,” Ms Harrington said.
“Golf Queensland strives to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle and playing golf is a fantastic way for children to keep active.”
“The juniors are always very excited to pick up the clubs and have a hit and we hope to see lots of eager young golfers at the MyGolf Junior Zone over the weekend.”
The 2015 RACV Ladies Masters is on 12-15 February at RACV Royal Pines Resort. Tickets are available here, children under 18-years-old are free with an accompanying adult.
