Former Vodafone Flying Fijians rep Sireli Bobo’s children Epeli and Sireli Junior were part of the Fiji International school golf development programme launched at the Pacific Harbour Multicultural School last Friday.

The programme, which is aimed at getting kids interested in golf at a young age, captured the interest of eight-year-old Sireli Junior who favoured golf over rugby, the sport his dad excels in.

“I learned a lot and had a really fun time playing golf,” he said.

“It is better than rugby and I really want to play it more and get good in the sport. I had fun learning the game with my friends and I found it easy.

“I learned how to hold a golf club and hit the ball which is the part I liked the most and now I know how to stand when I hit the ball.”

Meanwhile, his older brother Epeli, 11, enjoyed learning the game but said he wants to take after his father and carry the ball rather than hit it.
“I love sports and learning new things, so I really enjoyed learning about golf even though I have played golf before, I still learnt something new,” Epeli said.

“But golf is just a hobby for me, I eventually want to follow my dad’s footsteps and play rugby because I love rugby.
“It was nice learning from someone who knows a lot about golf and for now I will play golf for fun but it is not a sport I would take up seriously.”

Close to 100 students took part in the programme and it will run for three consecutive weeks.
