San Diego Padres and Callaway to build nine-hole golf course inside Petco Park

Through a special three-day promotion sponsored by the major-league baseball team and Callaway Golf, those securing tee times through online sales will be able to play a course that will include dugout and bullpen putting areas and shots from upper-deck tees to “greens” set up on the field below.

Major-league baseball’s San Diego Padres and Carlsbad, Calif.-based Callaway Golf are teaming up to create a nine-hole golf course within the Padres’ Petco Park that will be open for the public to play from November 6th through 8th, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Tee times for the nine-hole “Links at Petco Park” have gone on sale online, the Union-Tribunereported, starting at $100 for twosomes and $200 for foursomes. The cost includes parking, snacks and beverages on the course, and limited-edition hats. Upgraded packages ($200 and $400 respectively) include a Padres-branded Callaway club and tickets to a 2016 Padres game.

A Callaway spokesman said about 144 individual player slots over the three days would be available to the public, the Union-Tribune reported. The Padres’ website was already reporting, a day after the promotion was announced, that “overwhelming” response had sold out available slots and that a wait list was being formed.

The layout of the course, shown here, http://www.pga.com/news/golf-buzz/san-diego-padres-and-callaway-build-nine-hole-golf-course-inside-petco-park will include putting greens set up in the Padres’ home dugout and also in the bullpen. But playing the course will also offer the opportunity to launch balls from the highest levels of the stadium, aiming at target greens that will be set up on the field of play.

“San Diego is a premier golf destination and Callaway is a premier golf brand, so partnering on this event makes perfect sense,” Padres Vice President of Corporate and Event Revenue Jeremy Horowitz said in a press release about the promotion. “The opportunity to play golf inside a Major League ballpark does not come along every day. We are looking forward to working with Callaway to make this an unforgettable experience, and to seeing our partnership grow over the coming years.”

Added Harry Arnett, Callaway’s Senior Vice President of Marketing: “We’re always trying to provide authentic golf experiences with our products that are unique and engaging, and that’s exactly what this partnership with the Padres is about. Playing a nine-hole course at a venue like Petco Park with Callaway golf clubs and balls will be a once-in-a-lifetime round, and we are excited to be a part of it.”

Callaway is also a backer of the popular Topgolf venues.
