Golf Aims to Convert Rugby Sevens Opportunity
Hong Kong: More than 800 children were able to try golf during the 2016 Hong Kong Rugby Sevens thanks to a Junior Golf Challenge run by the Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) in the HSBC Sevens Village.
Tom Phillips, Chief Executive Officer of the HKGA, said: “We are grateful to our partners at HSBC for enabling us to showcase golf in the public village during the Rugby Sevens and promote the game to so many new kids, many of whom were playing golf for the first time.”
The Junior Golf Challenge in the HSBC Sevens Village featured a ShortGolf chipping zone with tuition from HKGA-certified coaches and prizes from HSBC and US Kids Golf.
ShortGolf is a fun and simple training system used by the HKGA in its HSBC Golf For Schools programme which was launched in 2015 and already operates in more than 25 local primary schools across Hong Kong.
