    Hi Everyone,

I am in the market for a new driver, I have never been fitted before, as I have always just bought 2nd hand clubs.

What I am thinking right now is using either – Golf Central, Viccy Park or Cool Clubs to do a driver fitting. My goal is to be able to test as many brands in the same session to see which suits the best. Any pros and cons to my picks?

I probably won’t end up buying a club from any of these places, because I think it is pretty crazy to spend that much on a club when you can probably pick up something 2nd hand that someone else is offloading. I just want this session to give me the data needed to make an informed selection.

So you are prepared to pay for a driver fitting, (probably $150+) to get matched to a head and shaft that work in unison for you and walk away without it. But then expect to pick up that same head and shaft, set to your specifics from someone else who just happens to have the same club/shaft/specs as you require for half the price or less.

I believe Darryl Kerrigan probably summed it up best.

Do yourself a favour and head down the coast to “The golf school” at the Palm Meadows driving range… See Peter Harrington.

Will cost WAY less and you’ll get honest advice. They have all major brands, fitting carts and the shaft optimiser tool.

They use trackman while you hit out onto a range so you get data and actual ball flight.

Having watched a full fitting at cool clubs, I’d strongly recommend not going to cool clubs.

Shot me a PM and we can have a chat if you want more detail.

PS: no pressure to buy with the golf school, but if you did, I found them to be 10% less than RRP including the cost of fitting.

You can also try any and every club without a fitting at the golf school too. Think last Friday every month they have all brand reps there to do fittings too.

Golf school has a very unique set up. As I said, highly recommend and we’ll worth a trip down to the coast

Don’t you read the GolfWRX forums?

That’s how it is done in the US.

Trouble is, here in Oz, we don’t have the market size. Or the players who buy new gear and swap out every few months.

So, it can be done, but just takes longer and more effort. Personally I don’t have the patience. Kudos to those who do.

Hey, I am prepared to wait until I can find the same shaft and head with the same specs 2nd hand yes. To be completely honest, unless you buy the exact club you are hitting, there is no guarantee you will get the exact same set up that worked on the day anyway.

Thanks Hack, I had not even thought about them. I will definitely put the golf school to the top of the list.

When I move over there (never), I’ll bear that in mind.

if you want to wait 6 months Callaway and Taylor made will have launched their newer models which will be made by aero space scientists using artificial intelligence and latest space age materials from NASA and this new model will be more forgiving, stop your slice, with aid of 12 levels of club face adjustment, hit ball longer distance and fly straighter than the current models in market.

AND will each have a colour scheme named accordingly.

You still have to remember it’s the bloke on the end of the stick. Yeah some clubs have adjustments but that’s not always the best fit, you still make the swing. Always pay what you feel comfortable, remember you have the cash not the shop.
