Big-hole golf has players on run | video
FAST and fun golf at the Wodonga Golf course is proving a big hit.
This Sunday, golfers will have the opportunity to aim at holes the size of dinner plates as the club continues its monthly big hole competition.
Wodonga golf professional Mandy Buchanan said the oversized cups are cutting playing times and making the game more accessible to beginners.
“It’s all about being fast, easy and fun,” she said.
“We are all time poor so the greatest stumbling block to attracting new players to the game has been the speed of play and the length of time it takes to play a round as well as the difficulty factor for newbies.
“This type of golf addresses all of those.”
Buchanan said the eight-inch holes allow for quicker playing times and appeal to those wanting to play the game for fun.
“We’ve been running the first Sunday of the month big hole competitions but we are also seeing people use it for Christmas parties and corporate days.”
It is on the first Sunday of the month from 1pm to 3pm and no handicap nor membership is required.
It’s all about being fast, easy and fun … It probably takes half an hour off nine holes of golf, you are barely on the greens. Mandy Buchanan.
