Big Plans For Junior Golf In Fiji

The Fiji Airways sponsored Fiji Junior Golf Open is scheduled to be held in December, this year.

This international event will be organised by the Nadi-based Oceania Golf School.

Co-ordinator Johanna Luita said they were impressed with last year’s event.

“This will be the inaugural international event and will now attract young aspiring golfers from Australia, New Zealand hopefully South Africa, not to mention our neighbouring countries in Pacific,” she said.

“We hosted the first tournament last year and it was a success. The event was won by Jay Tee Leca so it is time to make the event bigger and better.”

Luita thanked Fiji Airways for been very supportive towards the development of junior golf in the country.

She said they were currently working on this month’s competition and kickstarted their clinic.

“We expect more golf enthusiasts to come in numbers as from next week as we will separate the advance from the beginners.”

The OGS have formulated other competitions for the year, which includes the Lautoka Junior Open.

The other competitions are Western Junior Open (March), East versus West (April), Pacific Harbour Junior Open (May), Inter-Secondary School competition (June), Inter-Primary (August), Suva Junior Open (September), Ba Junior Open (November), and Fiji Junior Open (December).
