Big push in ladies golf to boost numbers

Thomasin Keogh is one of 20 athletes already signed up for the Ladies, Let’s Golf, program and more are welcome.

There are two free introductory session next week and the level 1 coaching program will start in early May.

Keogh said she first played golf when she joined the Oxley club 18 months ago when living in Brisbane.

“I am now home at Killarney and have joined the Warwick Golf Club,” she said.

“I want to be part of the clinic to learn basic techniques and improve my driving which is harder than it looks.

“To have a clinic with five lessons for a small cost is amazing. Golf is easily misinterpreted as a boring and tedious sport but when you start to learn the basic rules and strengths, it becomes a game of strategy and tests you mentally which is what I enjoy about it.”

Keogh said the sport was an opportunity to meet other ladies in golf and become involved in the community through the golf club.

“It is a sport for all ages and can be a sport for your entire life,” she said.

“I now play once or twice a week but I am keen to get back to the basics. It will be more enjoyable to be coached as part of a group setting.”

Golf is a sport that attracts many family members and Keogh is in the Warwick club with her mother Donna Keogh and grand aunt Gwen Mills.

The free introduction lessons will be on April 28 at 9.30am-10.30am and April 29 at 2.30pm-3.30pm. Budding players have the opportunity to come to one of the introduction sessions or just register for the clinic.

The clinics will be one hour over four consecutive weeks with a number of session times available. Players from the age of 15 are welcome to be part of the level 1 coaching clinics.

Visit golfqueensland.org.au/ to register and to see the session times for the four clinic weeks.
