Charlie Earp named Ambassador for Inaugural Australian Junior Age Division Golf Championship

In April 2015, Queensland’s Mercure Capricorn Resort will play host to the Inaugural Australian Junior Age Division Golf Championship on the two world class courses they have being run by Capricorn Resort Junior Golf Committee. The Mercure Capricorn Resort boasts 800 rooms, three restaurants, pools, the beach and several leisure activities. They have been successful in obtaining exemptions for each Australian (must be Australian citizen) winner, both male and female, in all age divisions to form part of an Australian Team to compete at the Veritas World Junior – AAU Junior Olympic Games Golf Championship which will take place in California in July 2015.  We also approached and have been successful in obtaining exemptions for any winning international player, male and female, in any age division to compete at Veritas and represent their country.

We have received confirmation from Graham Moore, the Tournament Director of Veritas, that our tournament will be fully operational as the only Australian qualifier for the Veritas World Junior event in 2015.

The committee consists of John and Shelly Scott- Tournament Co-ordinators, Charlie Earp OAM, Tournament Ambassador, Andrew Humble (Golf Operations Manager, Capricorn Resort), Tournament Director and Barry Shepherd, Tournament Rules Official.

The format of the event will include divisions for both male and female in the 6 years and under, 7-8 years, 9-10 years, 11-12 years, 13-14 years, 15-16 years and 17-18 years and will be a gross 27 hole (younger divisions) and 54 hole stroke event.  For the first time this will bring an Australian Junior event in line with all other golfing nations.  There is no cut and it is not necessary to qualify for the event, it is open to all junior golfers irrespective of age or ability.

For this tournament to be a tremendous success, they will require extensive coverage and request whether it would be possible for you to promote this event.

We do not receive funding from Capricorn Resort or any government or golfing bodies.  As you would be aware the cost of hosting this tournament and attempting to subsidise Australia’s best juniors to compete on a world stage is formidable.  We are honoured and humbled to have all of our tournament officials and helpers assisting us on a volunteer basis.  We will be relying wholly on the valued support of sponsors.  Any sponsorship funds raised will be used exclusively on this endeavour.

Our aim is to provide all Australian and International Junior Golfers an opportunity to play in their own age divisions based purely on playing ability and to provide a pathway from the earliest age, 6 years and under, to 18 years.  We believe this is a unique and fantastic opportunity for junior golfers of all abilities to test themselves against juniors in the same age division and an opportunity to compete on a world stage.
