Golf Festival to Mark KLGCC Silver Jubilee
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) celebrates its silver jubilee this month, marking 25 years as one of the region’s most prestigious golf and country clubs.
As part of KLGCC’s Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Asian Golf Industry Federation [AGIF] Golf Facility Member is organising a week-long Golf Festival with MST Golf from March 21-27.
Golfers will be in for a potpourri of fun-filled tournaments such as the Double Pin Challenge, Golf Marathon, KLGCC Texas Scramble, Member’s Guest Day, Parent-Child Competition, new golf equipment showcase and special promotions on golf memberships, retail golf equipment and apparel offers alongside other entertaining activities including Beat the Pros, Longest Drive, Putting and Nearest to Pin competitions.
“The recognition KLGCC enjoys today is the culmination of contribution by the various stakeholders such as Sime Darby, the members, staff and business partners over the years. The greater challenge, however, lies in sustaining and even further elevating KLGCC’s reputation as among the best in the world,” said Steven Thielke, General Manager of KLGCC and a Board Member of the AGIF.
Established in 1991, KLGCC is strategically set within the green lung of Kuala Lumpur, just eight kilometres from the heart of the city.
Its acquisition by Sime Darby Property in 1997 marked a turning point for the club, paving the way for major reconstruction of its West and East courses in 2008 and 2010 respectively, as well as the transformation of its 250,000 square foot clubhouse into an opulent architectural marvel.
Following its complete makeover, KLGCC was then primed to stage major international tournaments which have raised the profile of KLGCC and Malaysia in the golfing world and have opened doors for numerous awards and recognition.
Among notable tournaments held at KLGCC are the Maybank Malaysian Open, the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia and the CIMB Classic, stamping KLGCC as the only club in the world to have successfully hosted the European, LPGA and PGA Tours all within one year.
These tournaments have attracted noted professional golfers including Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, Rickie Fowler, Bubba Watson, Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Feng Shanshan, Jessica Korda, Park In-bee and Michelle Wie.
This month also marks another milestone for KLGCC, as the venue for the inaugural BMW Malaysian Open. This international women’s tennis tournament will pave the way for more spectacular events to be held at KLGCC.
“KLGCC is geared to providing continuous value enhancement for its members and stakeholders by positioning itself as a preferred lifestyle destination within the KLGCC Resort that encompasses 360 acres of phased development comprising retail, recreational and residential facilities alongside a 36-hole golf course,” said a club spokesperson.
Presently completed is the East Residence with 128 low-rise luxury courtyard villas facing KLGCC’s East Course.
