A new initiative known as “Golf West” will be launched next month in an effort to bring the game of golf together in the Western suburbs of Melbourne. An alliance has been formed by eight golf clubs in Melbourne’s West, namely Eynesbury, Kooringal, Medway, Melton Valley, Sanctuary Lakes, Northern, Werribee Park and Sunshine as a way of fostering interclub relations and promoting the game of golf within the region.

Known collectively as “Golf West”, the alliance was formed earlier this year by the General Managers of the clubs involved and representatives of the Australian golf industry.

The Golf West initiative will feature the new and unique ‘Golf West’ card (one of the first to be trialled in Victoria) allowing members of the participating clubs to play each of the eight participating courses at least once over a 12 month period, complimentary.

The main objectives of “Golf West” include,

• To promote, encourage and foster the game of golf in the western region of Melbourne.
• To promote and encourage the exchange of ideas and to share information between the member clubs.
• To work closely with Golf Victoria, the governing body of amateur golf in this state, and to expand participation of the sport throughout the region.
• To explore and implement opportunities that will create added value to the clubs respective memberships and to assist with the retention of their current members plus recruitment of golfers into the club environments of the participating clubs.
• To develop partnerships with other western region community organisations as a way of growing the game throughout the region.

Schedule:                    4pm – junior golf programs for all kids who want to come along and take part in golf

5pm – formalities and official launch commences

6pm – invited dignitaries, supporters and guests invited to play a round of nine holes
