Swing your arms continuously around your body for 60 seconds. Now imagine doing this non-stop for 12 hours straight. That’s what Tom Hughson will attempt on February 6 at The Western Australian Golf Club, all in the name of charity.

Hughson, who will undertake the Hitting into the Light 2, the HOLE-IN-1 CHALLENGE of hitting a golf ball every 30 seconds during 12 hours, said it is all about challenging himself physically and mentally, while raising money and awareness for beyondblue.

“I once heard great distance runner Rob De Castella say, ‘doing something that is physically challenging is great for a persons wellbeing’ and that is exactly why I am going to push my physical limits,” Hughson said.

With thanks to golf club professional Vernon Sexton-Finck, The Western Australian Golf Club’s driving range will be converted into a purpose made golf hole (legal size and approximately 135 metres long).

Money will be raised by purchasing numbered balls at a cost of $5 per ball, with Hughson’s objective to hit 1,200 golf shots in the 12-hour time frame.

The first 10 holes-in-one scored will have a prize attached, supplied by sponsors.

The entirety of money raised on the day will be donated to a charity close to Hughson’s heart, beyondblue, a national initiative to raise awareness of anxiety and depression.

Early bird gets the worm: The first people to donate will get the first choice of numbered balls. In the case of a hole-in-one being scored on your numbered ball your donation is doubled.

If Tom fails to get through the time span and your numbered ball is not hit, money will be refunded in full.

The more donations made the more Tom must play, and you get a chance to say you sponsored a hole in one in golf for a great cause.

“I am really pushing myself. Even though I love golf, this is going to one of the biggest physical and mental challenges I have attempted,” Hughson said.
