Jeffress keen to keep ball rolling at City Golf Club

AUSTRALIA’S Steve Jeffress travels to Florida next Tuesday to mix it with 70 of the world’s leading golfers in a $9 million shootout.

But first he has an important date to keep in his return to Toowoomba for the 2015 Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship.

The New South Welshmen will be one of 120 hopefuls lining up tomorrow in what is described as the best field yet assembled for the $120,000 City Golf Club tournament.

Jeffress had a memorable 2014 highlighted by his Fiji International win in August which helped catapult him to second on the Australian order-of-merit prize money list behind Greg Chalmers.

A reward for his most successful tour year yet is a start in next month’s Cadillac Championships at Trump National Doral.

“Next Tuesday I head over,” Jeffress said yesterday.

“It’s for the best 50 players in the world plus a few extras like myself.

“If you get in a field like that, 70 players with no cut, playing for around $9.5 million US, it’s going to be good fun.”

Jeffress is hoping a putting lesson with his coach on Monday has him primed for a strong showing at City this week.

“I had a great end to last year and I’m looking to continuing that sort of form this year,” Jeffress said.

“I’ve been working hard on my game during the off-season doing a lot of short game.

“I’m looking forward to getting out there now and competing.

“I love the course. I’ve won a couple of pro-ams here and I always enjoy coming back.

“I played the Victorian Open and Victorian PGA the last couple of weeks and played really nicely.

“I probably struggled a little bit on the greens.

“Tee to green was great and I had a putting lesson with my coach yesterday.

“So if I can roll a few in, I’ll be there somewhere towards the end I’m hoping.”
