Lydia Ko coaches young Kiwi golfers (video)

The kids weren’t much younger than her, but star Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko was back in the swing this morning hosting a coaching clinic for some of the country’s best up-and-coming players.

Since touching down in Auckland on Thursday morning, fresh from banking a $1.9m jackpot on the LPGA Tour, the 17-year-old is on a whistle-stop week long visit and dedicated this morning back to the game.

Around 40 of Auckland and Waikato’s best young players got the chance to meet Ko and take part in an hour-long question and answer session – before watching the biggest name in women’s golf take to the range for demonstrations.

Ko then took the time to cast an eye over some of the emerging talent – and the fact that some of them are just three years younger than her wasn’t lost on Ko.

“I don’t know much help I’ve given them, knowing I’m only just a couple of years older. In that sense it’s kind of weird, but even if I just give them a bit of confidence, that’s what I’m here for,” Ko told Stuff.

“I’ve been seeing some of the juniors out here, it’s been fun. There’s a lot of talented players here.

Ko, who will return to the United States next week, will also make another public appearance at Takapuna Golf Course tomorrow, where she will host another junior skills clinic before featuring in a charity golf event.
