In a nation paying special tribute to its fallen and returned heroes, Cottesloe Golf Club can stand proudly.

The Perth club today put the finishing touches on a moving week-long tribute to remember the day, 100 years ago this morning, that our Anzacs landed at Gallipoli.

At least 27 of those who served at Gallipoli were current or future members of the then fledgling Cottesloe GC, opened five years earlier.

And CGC’s volunteers and staff have been hard at work ensuring the centenary is commemorated in a manner befitting its importance to our national identity.

On-course and internal Anzac displays were set up on Tuesday for members and visitors to the club.

Each hole on the picturesque course has been named in an Anzac theme with on-course signage at tees, making a round of golf an Anzac journey with a Cottesloe touch.

The first tee display includes the transformation of the club’s practice bunker into “Quinn’s Post” – a truly remarkable tribute to our Gallipoli heroes.

There is also a hand-crafted “ANZAC 100” sign made by member Derek Ladyman and the planting of more than 9000 hand-made poppies created by club members.

More than 100 descendants of the 27 Cottesloe members who served at Gallipoli were in attendance at a special morning tea hosted by life member Kay Briggs, with the families addressed by president Murray Williams.
