Nelson Bay Golf Club opens nine-hole play

NELSON Bay Golf Club is looking to tackle the industry-wide downturn in people playing golf by offering a new nine-hole business and social competition.

The club has taken up an idea suggested by industry leaders in Australia and worldwide to offer more nine-hole competitions, which cater for “time-poor” golfers.

Throughout the daylight-savings period, between October and April, the club is offering business and social competitions.

The format for the competition will be that players can submit scores for a nine-hole round played at any time from 5pm on one Sunday until 4pm on the following Sunday.

As well as individual prizes, there will be a competition for the best three scores for each team each week.

Teams can have a minimum of three and a maximum of six players.

“It is hoped that the business teams will not only enjoy the opportunity for some recreation together but also have the opportunity to network with other business people,” the club’s Dave Flatt said.

The competition is not just for business groups.

Social groups are also welcome to enter teams.

The club’s pro shop is offering a free coaching clinic for novice players.
