New playground at Singleton Golf Club

THE new playground at Singleton Golf Club was born out of community goodwill and volunteer hours.

It was installed just before the Christmas break by volunteers from both the golfing fraternity and outside.

But, ultimately, it’s now a more family-friendly area.

“We can’t remember how long the old wooden structure playground was there for, however it was getting to the point where it might become a safety issue,” Singleton Golf Club bar manager Kellie Thomas said.

Key to the success of the construction was Singleton Junior Golf Club secretary Jo Evans ringing around Singleton businesses for small donations.

In total, 24 local businesses donated $200 each to raise $4800, which went to the purchase of the new playground and fencing area.

Added to the golf club’s own fundraising through raffles, the playground was created.

“The next step is to put in place some shade sails and we’ve already been donated one,” Ms Thomas said.
