Oyedokun wins maiden Junior Challenge
FIFTEEN-year-old Julius Oyedokun from MicCom Golf Club in Osun State, played his way into history books as he emerged winner of the maiden Junior Golf Challenge, which recently held at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938.
The event sponsored by Access Bank Nigeria Plc, was played over two days and featured players from Abeokuta, Ikeja, Shagamu, Ewekoro and MicCom golf clubs as well as the host club.
Head, External Relations of the sponsoring bank, Amaechi Okobi, said the turn out of the event justifies his bank’s investment in the kids’ tournament.
“We are supporting this project because it aligns with Access Bank’s focus on developing communities and we are proud of what happened here.”
He said the bank was passionate about the development of the
Nigerian child and avenues like The Junior Golf Challenge provides an opportunity to develop talents in our communities. Access Bank is proud to be associated with this tournament.
Other winners at the event include Sylvester Joseph, who finished four shots off 83 gross that Oyedokun carded. Raimot Ibraheem from Abeokuta Golf Club won the girls’ best player with 108 gross over 18 holes.
Captain of the host club, Ted Iwere, in his address said, “Ikoyi Club 1938 is proud to be associated with Fairstroke’s initiative to position the Nigerian child for all round development through the Junior Golf Challenge.”
Account Director, Caritas Communications, (which facilitated the challenge) Oluwaseun Adesida added, “Caritas is in the business of growing international brands through the provision of brand and reputation solutions. The Junior Golf Challenge is a veritable platform to develop international brands from
cradle to stardom. This challenge has the potential to develop not just their skills, but their character through mentorship
opportunities available on this platforms.”
Meanwhile, organisers of the event, Fairstrokes, has pledged that subsequent editions of the event would be improved even as more kids would be given the opportunity to display their skills.
According to its executive, Sam Emehelu, “Our dream is to get more kids involved in the game while also giving those already playing opportunities to showcase their talents.”
