Golf professional Toni Batey is full of energy and enthusiasm for teaching both golf and swimming and hopes to pass on this enthusiasm to as many people as possible.

She has been a golf professional for 25 years, travelling to South Island golf clubs teaching to all ages. In that time she also spent 11 years as golf development officer with NZ Golf and 20 years at Canterbury Golf as Golf in Schools co-ordinator.

Toni moved to Kaikoura six weeks ago.

Her passion is teaching women and children, which is why she is is starting up a three-week Kids Give Golf a Go programme, starting after school next Monday, November 9.

“Children as young as three can have a go at it because they don’t have to chase a ball and they can hit it because it is stationary. I’ve already had a great response for this.”

Toni is happy to take up to 14 children in each half-hour session, which she has split into three to six year olds, girls only and age 7 and up.

Everything is provided and lessons will be run at the Kaikoura Golf Club.

The newly inspired womens 9-hole programme across New Zealand was based on a successful programme Toni started in Christchurch called the Just Women’s Social Golf League, which introduced more than 1000 women to golf in just 12 months.

“It’s with this enthusiasm that I want to provide golf lessons here in Kaikoura. Men’s lessons or vouchers are available, along with the digital technology to show them where they are going wrong and what to change.”

Toni’s enthusiasm is catching, so be warned, you could become hooked.
