Reasons to be excited for the 2016 golf season (Part III) –
Here is Part III.
21. Sergio Garcia’s final-ish act
Garcia isn’t old (he’ll be 36 in January), but he’s probably at the very end of his prime. He doesn’t seem like the kind of golfer who will play until he’s 70 either. Following a mildly disappointing 2015, will we get Good Sergio or Bad Sergio in 2015? And will he finally put his hands on a major championship trophy? Like Dustin Johnson, Garcia might not always satisfy, but the experience is never boring.
22. The Irish Open
It’s a tournament I’m fascinated with. Rory McIlroy has signed up to host it for the next three years, and this year’s version will be at the K Club (2006 Ryder Cup venue). Can McIlroy convince a bunch of his pals to come over to Ireland again and play the thing in what will be an already jam-packed season? We shall see.
23. The west coast swing
It goes a little unnoticed because a lot of the big names don’t play and the season doesn’t really start until Augusta. But the west coast swing that includes Riviera, Torrey Pines and Pebble Beach with some bigger names than normal playing should be terrific.
24. Henrik Stenson’s chill
I’m not talking about how laid back he is either. I’m talking about how the Swede is an absolute assassain with his 3-wood. I look forward to this every season, and 2016 is no different.
