Soccer players give golf boot

THE Northern Rivers first foray into footgolf got underway yesterday when a field of 70 players pulled up their checked socks and had a go at the new game at the Teven Valley Golf Course.

Footgolf is best described as a version of golf played with a soccer ball.

Instead of using a club to hit a small ball around the course and into small holes, players use a full-size soccer ball and kick it into bigger holes constructed adjacent to the greens.

The aim of the game is to get the ball into the hole using as few kicks as a possible.

Joshua Pascoe was on hand yesterday to help promote the new sport on behalf of Greg and Patrice Allman who own and run the Teven course.

Mr Pascoe said soccer is one of Australia’s most popular sports and combining it with golf made a game that was easier and more social.

An experienced soccer player with the Richmond Rovers, Mr Pascoe said the new game had its challenges.
