SUMMER FAMILY GOLF SERIES KICKS OFF AT SANDHURST

First of Sandhurst Club’s Sundays at Sandhurst tees off with huge round of Kick Golf

The first of Sandhurst Club’s Sundays at Sandhurst kicked off with an enjoyable round of Kick Golf in late November in perfect conditions. It was a family fun day packed with activities, live music, and a basketball tournament, rounded out by an outdoor cinema showing of Grease.

Kick Golf was the first activity in the Sundays at Sandhurst series, comprising family-oriented games to give kids and young people a chance to experience the golf course close-up.

Attendance was higher than expected for the event, with families and individuals rounding off into pairs and groups of three. The object of the game is to kick a soccer ball as few times as possible into a small net at the end of a hole. The team with the lowest score won a cash prize.

“It’s a great introduction to the golf course to the family,” said Steve Hermann, a participant in the day with his two daughters. “Where they wouldn’t be confident with clubs, they love kicking the ball around.”

Jacob, 10, agreed. “I liked basically everything,” he said. “I’m definitely coming back next time.”

Sandhurst introduced the Sundays at Sandhurst program as a pathway into playing golf. Many aspiring players must make a significant investment in clubs and practice range time before playing the game on a course. It’s also a way to engage with residents and the local community in a relaxed and active environment.

“There aren’t a lot of pathways to entering the golf course,” said Sandhurst CEO Julian Murray. “There are a lot of intimidating barriers to entry – dress codes, the difficulty of the game itself and not enough time in the day to learn how to play or have opportunities to play.

“It brings families together in a unique way – on the golf course.”

Upcoming events include the Big Hole Golf on 10 January and Night Golf on14 February. Other activities slated for the series are Frisbee Golf, a new hybrid sport gaining popularity in the United States.
