Tasmania’s golf croquet team hatches national championships plan at Government House
Tasmania’s state golf croquet team has taken to the green at Government House to practise ahead of the national championships being played in the state next month.
It is the first time Tasmania has hosted the championships, and while the local team is accustomed to placing sixth out of six, they are eyeing off the competition and planning a move upwards in the final ladder.
Team captain Patsy Paine has played golf croquet — a simpler game than croquet and played on a court with six hoops — in nearly every state in Australia.
“It’s good to be able to bring it here,” she said.
“Tasmania traditionally finish in sixth place out of six, but we’re hoping this year to make it one step up.
“We’ve just got to beat one state, and there’s two or three in our sights this year. The team’s training hard, as you can see.”
