Golfers love to watch and learn from pro golfers’ swings. It can be helpful, undoubtedly, but it’s even more helpful to learn from how they practice.

        Lots of wedges
They use their pre shot routine
        They set up swing drills
        They pace themselves
        They play skill games
They are obsessed with their putting lines[/ol]

        1. amateurs hit lots of shots before game and think its practice and hope to find a swing for day with latest on line you tube tip, vs pro’s warm up with swing they have on day.

        2. during play amateurs change swings or grip or set up if make 2 bogeys in a row vs Pro says oh well that what swing I have, let me score as well as I can today.

3 during play Pro’s only hit at 70 % power vs amateurs hit as hard 110 % as they can on every shot

4 pro;s have a game plan for the course vs Amateurs who just hit and then complain if they hit into fairway bunker

5 Pro’s aim for middle of green and play away from trouble vs Amateurs aim at pin and bring trouble into play

6 After game amateurs hit bar or go home, vs Pro’s after the game practice what ddint work for them

Having invested a lot of time in practice and lessons, a lot more than amateurs, pro’s have usually been ‘taught’ a routine for practice. Every golf coach I’ve been to has made a point of taking to me about “how” I practice.

I’m curious as to what others have been taught. What and why, do you use various practice routines, drills, skills tests etc.

I always lay down an alignment stick, you have to set up straight to the target.
Always aim for something at the range.
Change clubs after 3 to 5 balls.
Practice shaping the ball to, you never know when you’ll need it.

ie putting drills like 1m, 5m 10 m into circle drill.
chip and pitch with 1 club to target using 3 trajectories
chip with 3 different clubs to 1 target
go into a bunker. get ball out first time

at range play the course make it real and under pressure.
in end should only use 35 balls
hit 13 drivers only into a narrow fwy
then the clubs one will use for second shos into par 4’s

hit 1 tee shot with 3w or hybrid into narrow target
hit the 4 clubs which you will use on par 3 holes

        hybrids
        5 irons
        wedge
