Keymaster3rd round of the Summer Cup yesterday at Southern. When I went into the pro shop they told us our hit off time was pushed back an hour and we had a shotgun start. Apparently we were joined by trainee pros who took up the rest of the course. Needless to say it was a long day….and slooowwww.
One bonus was I had the chance to sit down for 3 beers and chat to some old mates, that I invited along, that I haven’t seen in nearly 50 years. Thanks to FB. We played in a three which probably meant it was slower than it could have been.Anyway couldn’t do a thing right all day and didn’t get one 3 pointer.
14 and 7 got me 21 points BUT NOT the NAGA. At the end the day it was about catching up with old mates and renewing friendships. Clearly that will be the gane I drop for best 3 scores But who knows……next week has to be better.•Inaugural Victorian OOM Putting Champion - Long Island 2011

ParticipantVets golf at Deep Creek in Pakenham today.
Shotgun start at 8:30, an early start for those travelling 100km from the eastern reaches of the West Gippsland district.
I started on the 16th, par 3, index 18 – the only hole I don’t get a shot on. I was happy to get a par, 2 points, and not start off ‘behind’. But my hope was soon dashed with some wipes and 1-point holes and not enough wins. I did have a lovely chip-in birdie for 4 points on the 9th to garner 17 points for the front nine. Off to the second nine for the remaining 6 holes but only 14 points for that nine. So a 31 point total wasn’t a disgrace but could have been so much better.Out of 81 starters, there was a good handful of 40+ points and most of the lollies going to the locals.
The course was in excellent condition although the slow greens had me caught short too often. The fairways were great to play off, unlike the shaved fairways at Warragul. There were some long runs from green to tee, particularly 17 to 18 which was about 5 mins in a cart, a very long walk for others.
Perfect golfing weather.

ParticipantSLGC Stableford, I should stop now.
Great day for golf.
I just forgot how to play!
Finished with 21 points for the 18 holes, yes, no misprint.
Hit a few great shots during the day but overall it was just crap.
And should take my GA out a bit, after hitting a record low!

You have joined a very small elite group that has managed 21 pts in the past week or so.. Well Francie is reasonably elite, me… plain old chopper who has the occasional good round of golf. You will bounce back..?

KeymasterI am in a happy place tonight. Today I played the Stableford comp at Heywood gold club and broke 80 for the first time in a proper competition. I didn’t break 80 by much ( 79 OTS) with 42 points, but I can say that I finally hit a score with a 7 in front of it.
Conditions were good, with little wind on the front 9 , but it built as the round progressed. The fairways were grassy and greens smooth and fast, compared to my home club. My tee shots were accurate, but still shorter than ideal. I got the hybrids to work today and hit more GIR than usual with my irons.
I hit 3 birdies, 7 pars, 6 bogeys and 2 double bogeys. Both doubles were results of poor choice on clubs pitch/ chip shots. One were I should have used LW to avoid the ball running off a green and taking three putts to recover. The other I used the LW instead SW for a full shot into the green. It came up 5 m short of the green, needing another chip to get on the green.
Well done! Its more a mental barrier that you have broken- so more to come!

Participant4BBBB Par at Warra yesterday.
When we partnered a few weeks ago, only 4 of the scores were his. This time, only 6 were mine, although I did match a couple of his.
How did we play? Just ok. A couple of wipes, not many pluses. End result +2.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantPennant practice today, just 9 holes then a BBQ.
Playing against the team leader, I lost the first 2 holes, then won the 3rd with a bogey, followed by pars all the way home to win 2&1.

ParticipantOldies’ 9 hole this morning.
I tried a few swing adjustments, because I was playing off 21 instead of my usual 16.
Started with three 1-points, then a 4 for 4 on the index 1 hole. Followed up with (in points) 1,3,0,3,2.
That’s about 16 points.I was trying to get more driver swing speed, with some success but a drop in accuracy.

KeymasterFinal round (4th) round of the Summer Cup at Southern today. Shot gun start today due to the weather forecast and hit off at 7.00am. I managed to start on almost the furthest hole from the clubhouse…..16th….. Playing off 10
Front 9 – 19 points (41 OTS)
Back 9 – 19 points ( 39 OTS)2 birdies
9 pars or better
1 sand save
Not many putts but unfortunately 3 putted twice.Lost second place to a countback but finished 3rd and won $20 for the pro shop.
My best 3 scores over the 4 rounds….
31, 31 and 38 for 100 total. 117 won it by a guy off scratch….or close to it where he had 2 x 41 points after 2 rounds of 69 OTS.
So finished 17th overall and won $150 + my $20 for the day so $170 on top of my $131.00 already on my tab at the pro shop. Have to think about what I need to spend it on????

I should clarify… by lessons I mean honing lessons to get you on song. Or maybe learn to play from the other side of the ball. ?
