I have been mucking about on a few courses in the southern region of Adelaide. My mate has taken up golf, but played very little so far. His knee replacement op today will set him back for a month or two. He is good off the tee accuracy wise and hits a nice repeatable draw. Close to the green and on the green (he putts very well) he is competent. All he needs to do is connect the tee shot to the inside 50 m shots and he will be ready to start playing competition golf.

How did I play? Seeing that I am playing with a 3/4 set of clubs I rarely use, not bad. I occasionally hook the iron-hybrid clubs when I lose concentration. They are SGI with a draw bias. I managed to shape my Driver shots both ways yesterday on demand ( happy with that), I tamed the SW for short sided shots and the putter worked. I played bogey golf with about 3 pars in the 9 holes at Marion. I love the view of Adelaide from up on the hill. Another advantage is the lack of snakes in comparison to the Mt. Compass course we played on the other day. I liked the challenge of the Mt Compass course with its many bunkers and sloped fairways, but the thick rough with tall Mirram grass populated with snakes took quite a few of our balls. After the first time trying to retrieve a ball, we didn’t try again. We saw browns and red belly blacks in there.

Monday golf in warm sunny skis with a mate, who haven’t seen for 15months, at one of his home town courses.
We played for our traditional trophy. which is a nice bottle of red.
Game was good on the fast greens, and ball sticking good.

35 points 82 OTS but lost 2&1 match play as my mate played very well .

my game not too bad considering not been playing much but did not have touch on short chips around greens, and this cost me at least 3 shots and the bottle of red.

oh well not to worry, we had a good fun day and a few laughs as we sat down for a glass of the reds at the café, after the game
good day was had by all.
planning another challenge at a neutral course, hopefully we can get this in before Christmas rush and with weather improving next week this could be a good way to end the year..

2P Ambrose today. As one of our usual group who had been booked in decided to go to the cricket instead, I was given a new partner – a 12 year old kid. Of course he could out drive me. Accompanied by his dad as caddy, we did ok but just couldn’t quite get birdies. Finished with 67.75 nett, well outside the winners.

With Warra closed to members this week due to hosting a PGA event, I went to Langy on Tues and again today.
Tues: Par. I had trouble getting my mojo, pushing lots of shots right, not chipping very well and three 3-putts didn’t help. I only managed two pluses. I didn’t count putts but it certainly wasn’t under 30. 33/34 probably. I parred the 18th which I’m sure I’ve never done that before.
    Result: -9.

Today: Stableford. Only a couple of wayward shots, chipping & putting all good. Two 4-point holes on the front with one wipe for 21 points. Back nine not as good, culminating in a 3-putt on the 18th. Back nine 13 points. I didn’t count putts but with a chip-in and lots of 1-putts, probably sub 30.
    Total: 34 points.
What was I doing differently? Buggered if I know.

Weather was just perfect in the low 20s with a gentle zephyr for a breeze. The course was in excellent condition, as usual.

Flagpole round at Beacy yesterday. That’s stroke where if you still have handicap shots left after 18 holes, you continue playing until they’re all used, carrying a ‘flagpole’ (just a marker), leaving it at your furthest distance.
I played quite well, uncharacteristically for a stroke round and finished with a nett 68, still two flagpole shots to go down the 19th with. Before heading off, I heard that one player had 6 shots to go and another had 5. So I didn’t bother.

However, while having an ale, further info came in that Mr 6-shot had miscounted and only had 3 and Mr 5 blew them all holing out on the 19th, a par 3, as had the other guy. As the prize was a ham, we needed a shootout to determine the winner and I had a very remote chance of being there too. If I got a HIO, I’ve won the ham, if I birdie the hole I’m in the playoff. I didn’t do either so I was out (on the green for 2 but not holed), and continued on as referee for the others. The other two played out, both having a 4. Replayed with both having a par. Third time around, one had par, the other lipped out his 3rd. All good fun.

So, I had a nett 68. Seven 1-putts and no 3-putts certainly helped. We had started around 11:00 when it was hot and getting hotter. But the cool change came through after a hour or so and dropped the temp to mid 20s. A bit gusty at times but great golf weather. The course was in excellent condition, as are most Vic courses at this time of year.

I played yesterday. Some gusty wind but none of Xrman’s rain.
My putting deserted me – the ball just would not drop. Three 3-putts and only two 1-putts meant a 37 putt total. Yet, the rest of my game was ok. Nett 75.

Just the usual stab at Warra today.
Four 1-putts but two 3-putts for a 34 putt total.
Three wipes didn’t help my score but a 4-point did. Still, it was only 30 points.

Course is closed on Saturday, so next week for the next round.

Merry Christmas to you all (that’s if anyone actually reads this crap). Stay safe.

Yes…. Yes it is, but I read it anyway. It’s that masochistic inner self. The same reason I continue to play what some may mistakenly think is a very different version of what they call golf.

Have a great Xmas and and even better 2022 OB.?

Yesterday, boxing day, nothing to do except clean the house and mow the lawn. Didn’t want to do either of those so I went and played golf instead. The weather was mild, even with a bit of mist present to start with (11:00).
On most of the holes I was hitting the ball longer and straighter, with some greens in reg. I like to keep my points ahead of putts, only possible with electronic scoring (MiScore) or you’d be wasting time with constant additions. At the turn I had 18 points but 19 putts. I hate 3-putts but love 1-putts. By the end I had amassed 36 points but trimmed the putts to 34.
When the club gets around to processing yesterday’s efforts, I expect to have lost a stroke.

The usual stab at Warra today.
My drives have been straighter and longer lately, but that wasn’t a characteristic of today’s round. Only about half were ‘good’, the rest were mediocre, but I mostly recovered well.

Points: No wipes, only three 1-points, total 39 points.
Putts: Nine 1-putts, nine 2-putts, total 27 putts.

My ‘cap has reduced to no longer being capped, just when the anchor point will leap ahead during January.

Stab at Warra, of course. Quite warm out there today, but not a problem.
Last week I was hitting my drives long and straight, but not Tues or today.
I started with a slight push into the trees between the first and tenth and the ball deflected back toward the 10th tee. A simple shot between the tree trunks was all the was required but I failed, and again, and again until I finally broke through with my 5th, on for 6 and not in. On the17th, the drive went a little left and is still there, somewhere. Another wipe.
Total was 33 points with 31 putts. No 3-putts.

was scheduled to play yesterday, but it was 42 deg so NO, not that keen.
rest day today , then on the move tomorrow to a new destination, next weeks forecast is cooler with heavy rain so probably end up cancelling again. such is life of a touring golfer.

MM stroke at Warra today. Bloody hot out there, around 40°.

42 out, but 49 back in (I faded somewhat as the day went on and the heat peaked) , nett 73.
Putts: 13 out but 17 back in for a 30 total. Two 3-putts, one chip in.

Less than 100 players instead of the usual 200+.
