The Inawg…inorg…the first ever L4G NSW OOM has been run and won, and a more fitting winner you couldn’t find!.

A glorious day greeted the players at Wollongong Golf Club, home of pyl…though looking at his score, you could be forgiven if you thought he’d never seen the joint.

With Jiminy’s unfortunate demise due to coming down with Coronavirus, we welcomed new member Johnno to the group and we saw the return of “The Beard”, 2Putts as well as JayB after a few years lay off. Hopefully they all will join us for more games and become a staple of L4G NSW.

I had the honour of firing the first shot and and it was a sight to behold, traveling barely 1 meter beyond the red tees! Thankfully the rest of the round wasn’t quite that bad. In a day of firsts I also managed to snag the first Eagle in an L4G NSW golf day…maybe the first across the board? A magnificent 2 on the par 4 4th hole. 22 points on the front 9, with the anchor thrown out…I mean wheels falling off…on the back 9 with 15pts. Commish was on fire…sort of…taking 2 of the 6 NTP’s on offer…the rest of his game must have been absolute shite!

Many thanks to all that ventured to the Gong to play today, special thanks to Zookeeper and JayB for the company around the course, very enjoyable, especially Zookeepers tee shot on the 7th, which sliced out of bounds into the Wollongong Geriatric Village, lodging perfectly, we think, into old man Simpsons Zimmer Frame.

OOM 1 Results and Current Standings:

    1st Barenski 37pts
    2nd Greywolfe 34 c/b

It was great to catch up with some old faces (some of them are looking markedly older) and meet once again a few faces from the past. It was exceptionally gratifying to see the mystique that is THE BEARD venture out for a round. One can only hope that the physical impairments that have held back his playing of a game that I know he used to love, can at least allow him to just enjoy a game a couple of times a year with the L4G group. His presence would be enormous. A big thanks to Patrick (Pyl) for the invitation down to the Illawarra and hosting the first venture for L4GNSW and our inaug… yeah that thing, OOM round under the new format as adopted by our Nth & Sth brethren.
To our Fuckin Captain Barenski, thanks for all you do in getting things organised and trying ever so hard to increase the numbers that attend.
I said it today and I say it again… You and Deb may actually like the venue in a few years time as well.

A big thanks to my playing group of Sid, (Snorkel) Michael, (Greywolfe) and Patrick (Pyl) for your company and for putting up with the absolute shit that I tried to call golf today. My game was not just bad…. it was embarrasing. Unless Iron Mick comes and plays in some NSWL4G games, I am destined for the NAGA/TROG 2020. Actually, I don’t really mean that Mick, you have improved, but my game was like yours 3 years ago. Apart from the awesome company today… I should have stayed in bed.

Lastly I would like to say for anybody that is a part of the L4G community and lives in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Sydney. This is a great bunch of blokes that come together for nothing more than the enjoyment of each others company and a round of golf, no matter how good or bad it may be. As was witnessed by my round today. (Mind you there were some other shockers that can be evidenced by the scores posted above) I do believe that Farken Capt Barenski will endeavour to have our OOM merit games played in a Sunday comp round at venues as yet to be decided. (venues mentioned today were Oatlands and Brighton Lakes as a couple of possibles) Do yourself a favour… come and join us. The bigger we become, the stronger the bond between us. We all have competing priorities and that is understood, but our games and venues are advertised well in advance, so I would encourage you to at least consider coming along for one game… who knows, you may just get hooked like the rest of us.

If travel is you concern… consider this. The vast majority of those that attended today travelled more than 1 hour to get to the venue. Our Fucken Capt, closer to 2 hrs. Sometimes it is worth the extra travel. Playing with these guys is one of those times.

Thanks everyone for coming down to the Gong! Great seeing some familiar faces and some new ones (for me at least.)

Very disappointed that no one managed to hit one into “the worlds largest bunker” on the beach holes… 😉

Hmmm, just enough score to win the day….but not big enough to reduce the handicap by much. Massive hand brake turn. ?

A bit late from me but had a great day back in the old hometown.

Congrats to Barenski for the win, must’ve been a good time to harvest!

Thanks in particular to my playing partners, to 2Putts for coming back out like old times, and for Johnno for joining us for his first round with the group.

Great to see old and new faces, and hopefully see you all at the next one!
