Hi all, many people may be aware that during the lockdown the people of Northcote and surrounding suburbs took over the Northcote Public Golf Course. The current state is that golf is back for now, the current management agreement runs out next year and the council has ear marked the course for public space. This means either limited golf and sharing the space with other activities (picnics, walkers, music venue etc) or what many on councils preference would be no golf.

A local group of players have banded together to try and save NGC, generally speaking they seem to be quite moderate and aware that things may not be the same as before but they just want somewhere to play golf. They have a petition that they will present to council would be greatly appreciated if you would consider signing it to save a local public golf venue.

I should point out I’m keen to save the course as I live near it and have had half of my hole in ones on the course (1 on the 6th).

Contracts are in place for next year so nothing they can do until then. Most of us understand that it is public land and are happy for some sort of shared arrangement, would love to see music events hosted on the practice fairway hill, we just want to be able to play our golf and don’t want the golf course turned into a snake and mosquito breeding zone that doesn’t get used by the public post pandemic.

To be honest we want golfers represented at the table when the decisions are made, currently that is not the case and the PR machine from the reclaim NGC has got a lot of traction due to some prominent Age writers pushing their agenda.

I grew up playing this course when I was a teenager. And missed a hole in one in pennant on the 6th hole by about 2 inches.

It would be disappointing to see it go purely because there aren’t many courses nearby. Having said that…it’s a pretty ordinary course.

    course.

Agree that the course isn’t flash but for someone that only gets out every 5-6 weeks to have a cost effective pay as you play within inner Melb. it is ideal. Also great place to give my girls a taste of golf to see if they like it. If they want to continue on I will sign up to a course but who knows if they will really want to follow through on it.

Selfishly it would be a huge shame to lose it.
