ParticipantFor those playing along at home… I’ve started going over my course plan for The Flats again in preparation.
I am thinking there’ll be more strategic attacking 3 woods in action off the tee. I expect to get it out to a 250 range with the run there so that will serve me well enough on a fair few of the holes. The bitey parts of scoring there, as Upnin alludes to is the short game and putts. You can get away with some less than perfect drives, but the scores turn to Poopey Town with bad putts and chips.

Man up!
Some of the widest fairways on a supposed championship layout. Bunkers which are mostly only in play for fudge-packers, and a couple of par 4s that are driveable with 3-wood – just take driver and swing away.
It’s a second shot course with good par 3s, and yes, all the trouble is around the greens. Especially the poorly designed and maintained bunkers (although they have been working on them feverishly this week for the Amateur), and the closely mown turf and bare lies greenside with the grain growing toward you.
Work on your putting, chipping and bunker play – that’ll stand you in better stead than 3-woods from the tee. No charge.

ParticipantWork on?
Haha
As in practice?Haha
I’ll be there early enough for some chipping warm ups and putting at home, but that’s about all I’ll have prior. The 3 wood will still be the attacking option, I’ll be looking to drive 12 and 2 with it anyway, but if they’re rolling out to 250, it won’t be any worse than a big dog anyway.
Or an I just trying to lull you into a false sense of security for you and Weets’ 2ball against me
Whoohar HarBut, really I will be hitting 3 wood on a few holes for the win

What run? You haven’t played there for a while – there isn’t the run there used to be.
Anyway, I’m not your worry. You should be more concerned about Weetlebix – the wide open spaces will suit his extravagant driving style. I just hoping he doesn’t bring his chunkin’/thinin’ wedge game and we’ll do you…….I think…..maybe……perhaps.
I’m also hoping to have a lot more handicap by then.

ParticipantPlayed Arundel Hills today and the course was in very good condition. A bit wet in spots from yesterday’s decent drop of rain, but the tees, fairways and greens were in very good condition. Bunkers a firm but playable.
The wind started fresh while the rain fell on the first, back nine. Then it got quite strong on the front nine. Tough conditions showed in our group of 15 where the highest score was 33 points.
Had a real up and down day including 3 birdies but only 3 pars, with 6 bogies, 3 doubles and 3 triples. 16 back and 15 front for 31 points.
9/14 fairways – started and finished solidly with the driver but dropped on 3 4 and 6 with driver (5 is a par 3). They weren’t terrible shots but they were the wrong shots on those holes. Dropped 1 other shot off the tee because of a fat hybrid on 2.
6 GIR – not good enough although 1 other was on for 3 after a poor tee ahot, and another 4 approaches shots were just off. Drooped 4 shots from a hooked 4i on 12, a short sided bunker shot from a 9i on 17 (unlucky bounce) and a topped PW on 8 which ended up in the water and dropped on the same spot so cost 2 shots.
4/15 up and down – 11 shots dropped here – definitely not good enough. Some should have been straight forward, some were tough. But it wasn’t where it needs to be.
32 putts – 2 3 putts was balanced against 2 long putts in the 20ft+ range dropped for birdies.
Some good signs but still way too many errors and not enough up and downs

ParticipantI believe MP is de jure for these mini games inside the group at RQ

ParticipantI stopped reading that sentence after I didn’t know what de jure means. I assumed it means sexy and that you too believe MP is sexy
but yes, match play it is
