ParticipantMuch better today at Palm Meadows – particularly the putting where I saved a lot of shots early through sinking some 5-6 footers
Course has bunkers GUR – they are going to take a lot of fixing – and the greens were patchy but rolled quite well generally so no complaints there
10 pars 7 bogies 1 double – 41 back 40 front for 81 off 10 and 37 points
7/14 fairways – the fades were strong today and cost me 2 shots on 10 (1st hole) and 7, with my only hook with driver costing me a shot on 16. Not terrible but will save some shots easily if I can straighten up a bit
6 GIR – dropped 2 shots – 1 from a thin PW on 10, 1/2 from a thin SW on 15 and 1 from a poorly planned iron on 3 – really that was a course management error. In addition to the 6 GIR I had 5 others just off. Still some improvement here to take out the thin shots and some weak pushes.
5/12 UD – dropped 2 shots here because some misses were from the poor approaches leaving me short sided, 1 was the putters fault and 1 was on a par 5 which still led to a par (and was unlucky to find a pothole on the green).
3/5 Texas – 1 dropped
2/3 PW – 1/2 dropped (shouldn’t thin a SW over the green and left with a challenging chip of thick grass to a downhill short sided – but could have made it so spread the pain between the SW and the chip)
0/3 LW – 1/2 dropped – made a good chip to 4ft on 4 but missed – spread the pain between the chip and putt but it was a good chip so I am happy about that. The other 2 were short sided and hit good shots but not inside 3ft by some margin
0/2 LW pitches – on 16 LW pitch from 30m to 5ft and on 3 LW pitch from 50m to 15ft – no shots dropped as I don’t expect to get up and down from that far but very happy with both shots
Should have made more but overall very happy with that part of my game today32 putts – 1 1/2 dropped – 1 3 putt, 1 miss from 4ft – much much better than last week so very happy about that
Overall it dropped me 0.4 to 11.4 with a played to 10.1 – I now have some space without flags dropping – better get my ass into gear

ParticipantFor those who take a keen interest (probably for entertainment purposes) in my short game – he is how it went today, starting off 10
10 LW over bunker to downhill lie – well struck but bit long and rolled well past – happy with that
12 Texas from just over to 1 ft and down’
13 Texas from just short to 6ft and down
14 Texas from right edge to 1 ft and down
15 PW from over short to 20ft
2 PW from a bit short to 3ft and down
4 LW from left of green to 4ft but missed
5 PW from short to 4ft and down
8 Texas from long and left was good to 5ft over a huge swale – pretty happy with it but misread the putt so not down
9 Texas from just short after MD second shot on the par 5 hit something and bounced up and finished short and not downOverall very happy with the short game. Still shots to save – lots of them – but has been a lot worse,

ParticipantPlayed Keperra with Brisbane Fairways and started well with 2 pars and then got on the bogie train and never got off
4 pars 13 bogies 1 triple
9/13 fairways – drove well apart from a wet hook on 16 for 1 dropped shot
4 GIR – greens were super firm and balls were rolling through – including a SW that finished at 130m after landing about pin high at 113m. Should have made more up and downs but didn’t manage it so didn’t score
4/16 up and downs – dropped 10 shots here:
0/1 8i chip for 1 dropped
1/5 PW chips for 3 dropped – the other was to 3ft but missed the putt
2/8 LW chips for 6 dropped shots
Chipped well except for a thin one on 11 (3rd shot on par 3) which was good, just didn’t convert many of them32 putts – 1 short miss and 1 3 putt
Disappointing that I couldn’t convert some good shots and some good chips – putting wasn’t terrible but definitely left some out there

ParticipantShort game rundown
1 Texas a bit weak coming through the trippy rough
3 PW from short landed soft and finished 8ft short
4 PW from pin high right rolled 3ft past but missed
5 LW pitch caught branch then next from deep rough was under it. Then LW chip to 3ft and down.
6 PW chip from over the green rolled out
8 PW chip long to 10ft and down
9 8i chip up the hill short but Texas up and down
10 LW chip off downhill lie was great but a bit short – was very happy to not blade it
11 LW 3rd on par 5 was a bit thin and over, the LW chip back was a little short
14 PW chip was a bit short but was a good strike
17 LW over bunker was a bit short but very happy with it
18 LW chip up steep slope was a bit fat, got the nect one to 3ft and downMarch 15, 2020 at 5:40 pm #10312Weetbix
ParticipantPlayed Caboolture today. Kudos to Turfers who through drought and now flooding rains has managed to maintain the course really well. The greens are excellent – good speed, roll very true and are very consistent across the course. They have preferred lie in place but barely need it. Some bunkers were full of water and should have been GUR but otherwise it was great.
I played ok. 2 birdies 4 pars 10 bogies 2 doubles
41 for 18 front 42 for 17 back off 116/13 fairways – dropped 2 shots here. Driver was a mixed bag but mostly ok.
2 GIR – too many thin irons today. Dropped a shot from a topped 4h on 14, and 3 from a pushed 5i punch on 1, a thin 9i on 13, and a weak 4i on 16. This was a disappointing stat, although I did have a number of others that weren’t far off – 2 Texas and 6 PW chips from close by the green.
4/15 up and down – dropped 6 shots here:
1/2 Texas
0/4 LW – dropped 1 shot and all of them were ok and gave me good opportunities including 2 from inside 6ft
3/7 PW – dropped 3 shots
0/1 8i
0/1 7i which wasn’t even aimed at the hole32 putts – 2 3 putts but overall putted pretty well so no complaints
Could have easily dropped a couple of chips and other putts but it was good to feel fairly solid around the greens today – hopefully a sign of things to come
Biggest area for improvement is definitely getting more greens in regulation. Quite a few close so not terrible but not many 2 putt pars isn’t where I want to be

ParticipantShort game today
1 7i from the trees was aimed just to avoid the bunker not to get down so did its job
2 PW chip from short of the green to 5ft and down
3 PW chip soft to 10ft
4 PW chip almost in and down
5 PW pitch from 25m a bit soft to 15ft
7 8i chip from short a bit fat to 20ft
8 Texas in for birdie
9 PW chip was weak to 25ft
11 Texas too firm to 6ft
12 LW pitch from 30m to 15ft
13 LW chip from under trees was thin but almost made the long return putt
14 PW chip almost holed and down
15 LW chip to 4ft but didn’t convert – really good chip though
16 PW chip short to 8ft
17 LW pitch from 65m over tree to 10ft – really would have liked to sink that oneOverall pretty good but still shots to save
Very happy with my PW chipping from close by the green
Only 1 really poor contact but that was punching from under a tree so was challenging – but wasn’t too bad a result1 user liked this post.

ParticipantPlayed OK at Gailes apart from a really poor start. The course bunkers are very hard – but I like that so played well from them – but otherwise the course was very nice. Started on 10 off 9.
11 pars 5 bogies 1 double 1 triple
10 over 83 off the stick for net 74 and 35 points9/15 fairways + 2 just off – drove ok except pushed it OOB on 10 (some bad bounces didn’t help but I set up with the face a bit open and that’s what happened). 2 dropped shots but pretty happy overall.
8 GIR – dropped shots from a chunked 9i on 15 after a cracking drive, a toed 9i on 3, and punched into a tree on 8. But overall was pretty happy with how I hit the ball today – hope I can keep that up.
4/11 up and down – dropped 4 shots here with the rest being unrealistic or 3rd shots on par 5s:
1/2 texas – 1 dropped shot
1/3 PW chip – 2 dropped shots
1/1 LW chip
0/3 SW sand – 0 dropped shots
1/2 LW sand – 1 dropped shot
Very happy with my bunker play today, and chipping was pretty good – hope that the improvement continues32 putts – 1 dropped 3 putt. Didn’t sink anything of note apart from a par save on 4, but no birdie putts made despite a few good chances. Not bad but definitely lots of room for improvement.
Overall I am very happy with the round, particularly given the start. Playing off 9 and OOB triple on first hole and 3 putt bogie on the second hole left me 4 over after 2 with only 5 shots left for the rest of the round. To make it 6 over without a birdie and including a double was pretty positive. Should be a flag and a small drop.

ParticipantShort game today:
10 Texas weak to 6ft
16 Texas to 3 ft and down
17 LW chip to 5 ft and down
1 SW bunker shot from 30m to 6ft for birdie but didn’t make it
2 PW chip to 5ft and down
3 SW bunker shot from 25m well short as I was standing on a steep slope, PW chip long to 8ft
4 SW bunker shot from 50m to greenside bunker, LW bunker 6ft past and down
6 LW bunker shot 15ft short
7 PW chip long to 8ftMarch 29, 2020 at 1:11 pm #10618Weetbix
ParticipantPlayed Sandy Gallop today with 6 others. Got a great deal at $5 each. Course isn’t in great condition but is a fun layout where you don’t need driver much if at all – you have to plot your way around. But there are some short par 4s you can go for.
Played off 8, par 70 and had 83 off the stick and 32 points – 15 and 17.
7 pars 10 bogies 1 triple
9/14 fairways – dropped 1 shot off the tee with a hooked 6i into a hazard on 6. Driver was slicey most of the day but didn’t cost me.
6 GIR – they are small greens so that wasn’t too bad, but missed some I should have. Dropped 2 shots after the hooked 6i above on 6 by punching OOB. Dropped another from a fat punch shot after going for the green on 12.
4/13 up and down – the small greens and gnarly grass around them made chipping interesting. Nothing bad but wasn’t leaving them close. Dropped 8 shots:
1/2 8i chips for 1 dropped
0/3 PW chips for 3 dropped
2/5 LW chips for 3 dropped
0/1 LW lob but didn’t count as a dropped shot
0/1 SW bunker shots for 1 dropped
1/1 Texas33 putts – putted ok and only 1 3 putt, dropped a couple outside of 10ft for 2 of the LW up and downs
Full swing was a bit off much of today especially with driver so I need to sort that out

ParticipantWhy is it that when we try for a safe shot off the tee, we manage to hook/ slice it into the very trouble were are trying to avoid?
