ParticipantI think the biggest positive from Pacific was my short game – I left myself some tests even to save bogey and I cannot think of a short game shot that I executed badly – although I did not make 2 Texas wedges so that probably qualifies as badly
10 After topping a 3h off the tee and only just getting through the trees through the corner of the dogleg I was about 45m out with trees preventing an aerial option and the pin up 3 different levels of ground, 2 fairway/rough and 1 green, with a bunker between me and the flag
Punched an 8i into the upslope of the 2nd level and it kicked right as hoped and ran up past the flag to 15ft or so. Didn’t make the putt but that was probably my shot of the day given what was in front of me. Couldn’t have done much better than that.
12 pushed 6i way right and pin was left side probably 30m away on a steep upslope where I couldn’t see the green surface. PW chip was too firm but well struck.
13 was one of those Texas misses but given that I was on the side of a ridge with a steep downhill I don’t think I could have got it very close. But I didn’t come close to picking the right line so that was a bad shot.
14 was a short sided bunker shot. My LW got too much sand (thought it was firm but no) but came out – just!
17 SW bunker shot a bit aggressive to 12ft past
1 another pushed 6i left me in trees and got through then sort of but 50m short after 3 on the par 5. PW pitch landed just the wrong side of the lump in front so finished short but it was a very well struck shot and almost really good.
5 pushed 4i behind a bunker uphill to the green. LW pitch short by 8ft – very happy.
7 SW bunker a but aggressive to 18ft past – no complaints.
8 LW bunker downhill rolled through to 12ft past – again no complaintsFor me that’s a very solid short game day that saved me a few times from what could have easily been doubles after the long game got me in trouble
Now have to make that the base and start leaving them closer

ParticipantPlayed Caboolture with Brisbane Fairways today
Off 10 and went 6 over 17 and 7 over 16 for 13 over 84 and 33 points
Came in as a okayed to 12.0 which replaced an 11.8 and my GL of 10.0 didn’t change
6 pars 11 bogies 1 double – bit disappointed that I couldn’t back up the nothing worse than bogie at Virginia with the same
3/13 fairways + 3 just off – drove pretty average but only dropped 1 shot from being stuck behind a tree. Got lucky with one that got a tree and bounced back into the fairway.
3 GIR – overall the full swing game was pretty poor and it showed, but short game stopped it from being a wreck. Saying that I wasn’t dropping shots left and right. Dropped 4 shots – 2 from irons: 1 a pushed 7 iron and a 9i that hit a tree, 1 from a 4i I topped and 1 from pushed PW into a bunker that left a steep downhill hard breaking shot which I was extremely pleased to get to within 15ft
7/16 up and downs – pretty good result for me and included a chip in on 6 with PW – only dropped 6 shots because 2 others were inside 4ft but missed the putts
1/2 SW bunkers shots – 1 dropped
2/4 LW bunker shots – 1 dropped
Very happy with play from the sand today – very solid and 50% up and down is really good
0/1 8 iron chip – 1 dropped
2/4 PW chip – 1 dropped
0/1 LW chip – 1 dropped
2/4 Texas – 1 dropped29 putts – putted pretty well apart from leaving NY first putt on a short for a 3 putt. Also missed 2 3-4 footers for up and downs which was very disappointing. Lipped out tonnes of long putts but got one on 17 from 15ft for an up and down from the sand par.
Need to sort out the long game – should be hitting more greens. But happy to make a decent score without hitting the ball well.

ParticipantPretty ugly round at Wantima today. Course was fine but I was all over the place and scored 17 13 30 off 10 with 1 wipe that counted as a double but was actually a quad
8/14 fairways – some really great drives over 250 – with some good bounce helping – but also some nasty low hooks. Only 1 big slice. Dropped 1 shot with driver – wet hook on 4 – and 1 with a drawn mini driver requiring a chip out. Still matching face at setup with swing changes – work to do.
6 GIR – rest of the full swing game was also patchy. Not terrible but cost me a couple. Hit a 4h low into trees and were after the low hook drive was wet on 4 for my wipe that was an 8. Dropped 2 when I hit a low right 9i OOB.
1/11 up and downs – not good at all, however 3 of them were bad putting. Didn’t hit anything terrible but didn’t hit many great ones either. Dropped 7:
2 from 0/2 SW sand
2 from 0/2 LW sand
0 from 0/1 LW chip to 4ft
3 from 0/4 PW chips to 10, 20, 4 and 12ft
0 from 1/2 Texas to 1 and 3ft36 putts – 1 3 putt and 3 misses inside 6ft – greens were scarified but no excuses – read them badly and was a bit tentative (apart from on 1 where I knocked it 5ft past). Couldn’t drop a decent putt.
So lots to work on at the range and in the yard.

ParticipantPlayed at Arundel Hills with Brisbane Fairways. They gored probably a couple of weeks back and haven’t sanded recently so the greens were horrible. Close to the worst I’ve ever played on. A total lottery.
Off 12 off the blue tees
Back nine I was terrible too. 12 over 48 and 11 points. Dropped 4 shots from 3 putts and a 3ft miss. Ball just bounced everywhere. Couple of bad luck drives cost 2 shots.
Front was better though but a triple bogey bogey finish only meant 19 points.
5/14 fairways – dropped 3 shots with driver a 1 from a skied hybrid, but positive was I started to hit much straighter as the round progressed.
7 GIR – 3 dropped from hooked hybrid, a 5i pushed into the trees on 9 – my last hole – and a toed 8i punch that didn’t make it out of the trees
4/13 up and down – 7 dropped – apart from a bladed LW pitch I was OK with the short game today – I put plenty of pressure on it
35 putts – 5 dropped from 4 3 putts and a miss from 3ft
Disappointing performance but I was introducing new swing change and that created some good results but as expected was a bit variable.
Start 6 games in 6 days from Wednesday when Nats would have been – so excited!

ParticipantYesterday’s round at an impeccably turned out Maroochy River Golf Club in very windy conditions was a struggle. The greens were hard and fast and finishing on them downwind was a hell of a challenge.
Some extraordinary shots yesterday included a 274m mini driver 2nd through the green on the par 5 5th, and an identically 274m driver on the par 5 11th that would have been lucky to get up to head height.
Unfortunately my putting was terrible leading to a 44 47 19 over 91 and 27 points off 10
5 pars 9 bogies 2 doubles 2 triples
10/14 fairways and 3 just off meant the tee game was very good. Dropped 1 shot on 18 as it rolled into the hazard.
9 GIR and very happy with the long game overall – only dropped 2 shots from a pushed 5i and a hooked 4i both into the wind that went into hazards
2/14 up and down with 3 being missed by bad putts – 7 shots shots dropped here
41 putts – 9 shots dropped from 7 3 putts and 2 short misses – sigh
Palmer Coolum today which should be a treat as the ex PGA Championship course

I assumed it was of the alcoholic variety. If not… +1
Now that I have read the rest, I take it back.

ParticipantYesterday’s round at Palmer Coolum introduced me to a real contender for my favourite SEQ course. I think the Glades will hold on but Coolum is both a great layout and a beautiful one. The greens were cored a few weeks ago so a bit slow but overall the condition was really good and the quality of the fairways and the curs of rough were excellent. Highly recommend it even if it’s a bit pricey.
Had 7 pars 7 bogies 4 doubles for 15 over 87 and 31 points off 12
Only 3 fairways and dropped 4 shots with driver without feeling that I drove badly – it’s just testing off the tee with a lot of water in play which I didn’t find much but instead found the trees on the safe side. I’m not taking too much away from these stats.
Only 2 GIR and was again a case of just being a but wayward or misjudging clubbing for wind and elevation changes. Had 5 others where I putted from just off and 6 others with PW chips so wasn’t missing terribly.
5/14 up and down – 6 shots dropped – wasn’t too bad around the greens chipping, certainly if I hadn’t lost so many shots off the tee I could have easily had an excellent score.
33 putts – certainly better than Maroochy but still 3 dropped shots from 2 3 putts and a short miss. Missing short wasn’t a great surprise after the lightening yesterday but my starting lines inside of 6ft are not good and I will do some work on that before today’s game at Noosa Springs.

ParticipantTotal poo performance at Noosa Springs off 9
11 8 for 19 points
Everything was bad apart from a chip in birdie on the 8th
Putted better
October 18, 2020 at 5:48 pm #13790Weetbix
ParticipantMuch better today at Noosa which was beautifully green but the cored greens were super slow
43 37 80 off 9 for 16 21 37 points
9 fairways – dropped 1 shot and got one very lucky bounce but overall not too bad off the tee
8 GIR – rest of long game was also decent. Dropped 2 shots from an 8 iron off the par 3 into the water waaaay off the toe
4/9 up and downs – dropped 3 shots which was very pleasing
32 putts – 1 3 putt but missed some real birdie chances
Much much better! Hopefully continues tomorrow at Headland
