This sub forum needs more attention!

Tell us about the course you played recently … maybe a new course for you, or some significant event / reason / memory.

By the time you realise this part of my signature doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it.

OK, I’ll get it started ..

Played Robina Woods (aka Palmer Gold Coast) this afternoon for the first time with Toph. Well, technically, we played 6 holes before it rained, and no-one smart plays golf in the rain, right? Oh, yeah, there was some weather issue too, loud bangs and flashes of light …

Anyway, the course was looking bloody fantastic. Considering the recent lack of rain, it was lush green. They’ve been punching the water into the course. Greens were VERY nice too.

I really like the fallen debris in the rough with plenty of sticks, twigs and leaves to punish for an errant shot.

The course reminded me of Bonville, except the houses are a bit more obvious at Robina Woods.

DEFINITELY have to get a full round in here.

Was a top course in its day pre Palmer and still bloody good. Reviews complain about the condition but it’s actually kept in top nick. Punishes everything off line. My only gripe at the moment is some of the bunkers need sand. A true test.

My home club at Gardiners Run is a great course. Off the White Tees you get the chance to score well on some of the shorter par 4 and 5 holes.
Off the Blue Tees you get an entirely different course with long challenging par 3’s and Par 5’s

I love playing here and would recommend if in Victoria to look it up and have a hit.

South Lakes GC Goolwa SA (the end of the Murray River) https://www.southlakesgolf.com.au/
A short Flat track, with a lot of risk and reward. Small raised greens with steep side banks on many, mean if you miss the approach shot by just a squeak, you are punished with a bounce off into the rough.
Not the toughest course in the area but it’s a short walk down the road for me and where I play mostly.

Having had to bail after 6 holes on the previous visit, the rest of the course at Robina Woods aka Palmer Gold Coast was looking very good again this afternoon. The first 6 holes were as I remembered.

I enjoyed the course, view and surrounds

Sand was somewhat variable. Couple of quite hard heavy ones, and one in particular (can’t remember the hole) was really soft and light, like sink to your ankles soft.

I wouldn’t want to walk it. Very undulating and some distance between green to next tee in a few spots.

Oh, yeah … the leaf matter and twigs were as I reported previously. Too many visits to the ‘woods’ and in some cases too deep today gave us plenty of opportunity to appreciate first hand.

Would like to go back and play again, but with a much better swing and swing mechanics to hopefully post a decent score.

I play Caboolture GC every month. Always a test of your ability. I believe you would go close to using most of your 14 clubs in your bag. My handicap blew out 4 strokes when I first started playing here. Good bunch of members, cold beer and a halfway hut full of burgers, sausages, pies, sandwiches to allow you to not go hungry when playing.

From the outside deck you can view 1, 10, 12,13,18 tees, 9,11,12,18 greens. Awesome uphill finishing hole, Par 3, 120 m with 3 traps front, and you don’t want to miss left at all…….

If you’re a regular there, maybe you can have a word to the greens staff?

    Flinders Golf Club, Flinders Victoria.
Doesn’t get the plaudits or the publicity of the other courses on the Mornington Peninsula, whether they be private (The National, Sorrento, Portsea, Rosebud) or the pay for play (Moonah Links, St Andrews Beach, The Dunes, Cape Schanck).
    A shorter course than most (11 x par 4s, 5 x par 3’s, 2 x par 5’s) par 69, 5500 odd yards.
A really fun course, experience is like a traditional links, with a few holes running along the clifftops, providing views across Western Port to Phillip Island and Bass Strait. The wind seems like its always up, so this maintains the challenge of the course.
Hole 4 (the coffin) and hole 5 (the beach) as well as Hole 11 (Fairly Dell) and 12 (Aunt Sally) were the more memorable holes, but overall i found the variety of directions off the tee and subtle elevation changes kept the interest up despite the poor weather at times on the day I played.
I had wanted to play here for a while, played on a random Friday in November, weren’t too many people around but was welcomed by pro staff, other players and green staff.
If you are in the area its worth a consideration for a round or two, if you want a different type of experience to the “dunes” of the other public/public access courses in the area then its worth a shot – an easier walk and price competitive.
Website is a good one too – has flyovers and descriptions/tips of all holes.
