ParticipantAnother Vets match has been cancelled ( third in a month). It is great that the Shepparton cluster is contained. Seeing that it is 600 km from here, it seems silly that we have been in lock down as a result of that out break. I guess it is easier to lock down a whole State, to remove the incentive for folks to escape to the country. It is just as boring here too, why bother!

ParticipantWe’ve had to move a few Vets events too. From state events (from Sept to Nov), to district events (championships from next week for 3 weeks).
Our club’s MM is another victim. I can see that, when golf does resume, it’ll be a medal every week.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.
No championships worth mentioning in recent years.

If Dan is consistent with his logic, next time a grass fire breaks out in a suburb he should lock off the whole state in case the fire spreads..

Yeah. If you’re in the path of a raging fire, you can only leave home if death is imminent. But you can only go a maximum of 5km because you might take the highly transmissible fire with you.

ParticipantIt felt good to book a tee time on Friday. Enjoy it while we can , eh? I will be working hard raising sponsorship for the annual Rotary Art Show for the next five weeks , so there won’t be much time for golf.

ParticipantIt felt a bit strange getting my golf cart out of the storage shed at the course. I headed over to the first tee and warmed up for 2 minutes with my non- orange whip. Arccos switched on and I was ready to rock.
Today I was testing a 10 .5 Driver (Nike 45 inch shaft) and the Inesis 900 Tour Ball. I hit a fade off the tee to get to the corner ( it worked) then a 7 W to get down to the green ( missed right) , chipped on and 2 putted for a Bogey. I am happy with bogey on the first hole.
Hole 2 I hit a 184 m draw ( aimed right and brought it back= Yes!) The lie wasn’t great so I hit my SL hybrid and missed slightly left of the green. I aimed my chip shot with PW at the flag and darn near hit it. Par.
Hole 3 another 188m draw that worked, mid fairway ( maybe I should have long breaks from golf more often). 4W down the hill and it drew left a tad far. That left me a around the tree draw shot 130 m distance. I tried a choked down 6 hybrid shot ( the new TS2) and the ball spun enough to stop on the top right green area. That left me a long downhill right to left breaking putt. I left the first one 3 m short, missed the second just and had a tap in uphill for 3 putts. Bogey.
Hole 4 Crap tee shot with the 10.5 driver mishit. Very good 6H 145m full swing for GIR. That TS2 feels hot off the face. Disappointing putting on this slopey green. 3 putts.
Hole 5 GIR wiht the Driver with a nice fade off the tee. 2 putts for a par. Happy man.
Hole 6 186m draw to the outside corner of the dogleg right, then a 8 iron to the centre of the green for GIR, & Par.
Hole 7 Another good draw 186m off the tee , then a good 7W to get about 90 m from the green. I added a club extra to get up the hill and over did it a bit, so I had to use the 3H to bump it onto the green . Bogey.
Hole 8 : I pulled my 7 i shot and ended in the bunker. I chipped it out of the firm sand with a LW and two putted for Bogey.
Hole 9 I tried another Draw off the tee and it worked, then a PW for a GIR , but three putted. The first one was long and I rushed the second. Bogey.Half way 3 pars, 6 bogeys. I was happy with that.
The back nine is still wet and soft. Hole 10 is particularly soft and I had 173 m carry off the tee with a fade shot. It pugged in the mud ! My approach shot with 7W 144m was on line until it faded at the end of the ball flight. I chipped on with my PW, but it went too far. Bogey.
Hole 11 I hit the 7W off the tee with a fade and it needed a bit more distance. I bumped it on with the 3H and 2 putted. Bogey.
Hole 12: A solid 206m draw ( got some run maybe) , then a &w faded to the green and 2 putts. Par
Hole 13. the tee shot launch angle was too low ( 172 m) and I got onto the 4W shot to the corner ( 164m ) I hit a 7i at the green with a fade ( it didn’t) so I bumped on with the 3H again and 2 putted . Bogey.
Hole 14 I teed up and hit the draw shape 186m ( looke low) then a choked down 6H for a GIR. ( 127M) . Par.
Hole 15 A bit wet still. 12 degree driver 189m, then a 7W GIR fade. Par. I hit two shots off the tee on this hole testing the Inesis 900 Tour Vs A Bridgestone Super Soft ( equal distance and about 2 metres part)
Hole 16 Nike Driver was too low again . I had to hook the ball around the Cypress pine on the corner with a choked down 6H ( 134m). I tired a 4W shot out of a questionable lie ( just to see if I could) with the Inesis ball and yep that ball spins well. I was disappointed with the 20 m Bump shot shot that only just reached the green. I tried it three times and only got a bit closer. I tried with the PW and the ball rolled up to the hole. Lessons learned! It was a bit rough and wet to try a bump and run shot. Anyway I went back to the first ball to putt and sunk a long one. Why can’t I do that all the time?
Hole 17 I faded a shot to the corner and in play, then a 4W approach shot ( short), then a 10 m SW chip ( too soft / no run) . Bogey
Hole 18. I faded a Nike driver onto the green, then 2 putted for par.Despite the wet conditions I played better on the back nine with 5 pars.
What I learned today
1) I need more than 10.5 loft on a Driver for my modest swing speed.
2) The Inesis 900 Tour has a nice feel and at my swing speed seems as long as other balls. $39 dozen in yellow.
3) I like the TS2 29 hybrid ( set flat) I can get 127m ( choked down 2 inches; 134 m choked down 1 inch, and near 140m at full length)
4) I hit more greens using the fade shape with 7W and 6H
5) I play much better when I don’t have a score card in my pocket.
6) I can putt OK Inside 10 feet, but three putts are related more to inaccurate chips/ pitch shots leaving a long distance for the first putt.Sorry about the detail: it is intended mainly for CB80 as he knows my course.

ParticipantI had a dental visit this afternoon. Adriano asked me to have a hit after work. It would have been rude to refuse.
I hit a 42 for 9 holes. I used my Cleveland HB Turbo 12 degree driver and hit some good tee shots with it. The longer shaft in the 4 Wood is giving me much needed distance for the 170 m approach shots. I have confidence that I can hit a good draw for maximum distance and a fade when I wan to to stop. Same with the 7W . I am getting 160 m with a draw and some good stopping shots with a fade. The TS2 hybrid is giving me reliable shot shape and distances in the 125-135 m range. My lag putting was a bit sketchy this afternoon, but the second putts wee dropping.
It was great to be outside and having fun again.

ParticipantI played 18 holes with Adriano this morning. The weather was overcast at first and half way through the game the rain came. It was heavy rain. My 4W and 7W worked well and I even hit a couple of full LW shots onto the green. It was fun! 86 OTS ( 4 pars, 13 bogeys, 2 doubles). I tried a few 8i chip shots, but length control was an issue. I think I am better using the PW for that shot. Hole #4 got me again/ 3 putts. and hole 7 I hit the tee shot into the trees right side.
My Driver shot starting line needs to be more right of centre. Hopefully we stay out of lock down long enough to work on it.

ParticipantUsing Weetbix’s analysis of the holes where I didn’t par , I found the following.
Tee shots : 6 mainly going too far left ( Is is the start line or do I have too much weight on the heel side of the Driver ( 20 gm)
Fairway shots: 4 mishits . ( one was a 7W tee shot that over faded/ not really a mishit)
Iron approach shots: 3 pulled left
Putting: 1 ( hole 4/ hate that green) -
