    Two steps forward;
    Today in a 9 hole social “comp” I scored a 41.
    Driver shots showed improvement.
    Short game was good-ish
Fade shots had longer distance and less side spin

    One step back:
Tee shots hit the fairway most times but still lacking distance
Chips were not close to the pin ( >3 m) , on the green, but not near the pin.

Is distance impacting on your scoring? How much of a gap from your current distance vs your expectation?

Recently there has been little difference in my 4W and Driver distance ( both around 180m carry). I would like to get the Driver back out to 190-200 m. I got one out to 191 m today with a power fade shape. If I could get that consistently at this time of year I would be happy ( dense air , soggy ground). That distance puts me into range of the green with two shots on the shorter par 4’s. Other wise I calculate risk/ reward of dividing the remaining distance into two, or one long shot and one wedge shot.

Today my wedges were showing the need for more bounce. Shots I was hitting with confidence with my SW and LW a month ago just dug a big divot and went nowhere today. So dividing the distance in two made more sense.

I played the local club competition today. Score 90 ( 1 birdie, 2 pars, 12 bogeys, 3 doubles) 36 points

    Two steps forward
    1) I hit 10/14 fairways. Mostly with a fade shape, cause it works for me. The draws 50% success, but only one push into the trees.
    2) Good fairway shots with 7 Wood and 3 hybrid ( both Cobras with baffler rails)
    3) my approach shots with irons improved ( I play 6-GW) in accuracy. The misses were small ones.

    One step back
    1) Bump and run shots were a strong point of my approach game during summer. Now they are ineffective in the soggy conditions.
    2) My pitching / wedge shots today landed short or I just dug a trench in the soft fairways. There was not much run even when I used a 7 iron.
    3) The stronger grip I tried today de-lofted the 4W ( no baffler rails) and I took deep-ish divots until I realized what I was doing and corrected for it.
    4) I missed two putts from close in again. One I didn’t take enough time to get aligned. I was worried about standing on another player’s line. The other I hit just a tad too firmly and it did a loop around the hole and escaped.

I am thinking of trying some Cleveland CBX2 wedges for the wetter months ( about 9/12 here) . They have more bounce and a wider sole. One of our playing group gave us a demonstration of how to hit low, spinny wedge shots into the green today. Very impressive performance!

    Two steps forward;
    1) I hit an 82 this morning ( equal best ever score)

    One step back

I did 9 holes this morning; cold, dew on the ground, 25 kph winds from the North.

    Two steps forward.
    1) Score 42 ( 1 birdie, 1 par , 7 bogeys)
    2) 9/9 fairways hit
    3) chipping was accurate

    One step back
    1) Approach shots still not reaching GIR, but very close. Need to club up more .
    2) 3 first putts rolled up to the hole , but failed to fall. Too much finesse?

9 holes match play in poor weather. I am not sure if that qualifies for the step back section!

    Two steps forward
    1) I only had a 60/04 lob wedge in my bag today. I hit it well.
    2) I only lost by one hole. Score 46.

    One step back
    1) pulled shots on hole 1 and 2 cost me 2 extra shots, then I pushed a tee shot on hole 4.

No I didn’t. It is a bit difficult to warm up prior to the game when the club asks you to arrive 10 minutes prior to tee off time and there is a limit of 2 on the practice area.

I think the pull shot is me trying to hit the ball too hard. It is getting less frequent. I just need to spend some time on tempo for my tee shots. Tee shots are not a great part f my game at present.

I played in the local Stableford comp today; Weather wet, cold, windy ( normal) soggy under foot. score 92/33 points

    Two steps forward
    1) I hit a few good draw shape tee shots with my 3 wood ( 14.5 draw setting) . I felt confident that I could do it.
    2) I used my LW, PW, GW to pitch onto the greens rather than relying on the bump and run shots I have been using during summer. New 56 & 60 Cleveland CBX2 wedges arrive soon. I sold my 54,56 ,58 Cobra wedges

    One step back.
    1) less than ideal tee shots on 4 holes. I pull, 2 mishits, one wrong club selection. Needs work!

    Understand that

I’d suggest having some pre round warm up that you can do when limited time. Work on the rhythm of swing and Slow the swing down. It’s easy to be too quick and pull as lower body isn’t in sync.

    Just my two cents

    Silly questions with Bump time.
Is there only one spot in the whole area that you can warm up?

There is only one practice area. Most country courses don’t even have that.
I recently bought an orange whip style device to use prior to playing to warm up and get my swing into rhythm. A few minutes of that will limber me up, plus a few minutes putting and chipping.

I need to spend a little more time honing my tee shots on the practice area mid- week Monday/ Friday (? Sunday ) when the course isn’t busy.
