ParticipantA practice round today to work on some issues. Cold, but no rain and wind.
Two steps forward
1) short game on song
2) I have found my 160 m low trajectory shot for windy conditions with a 2 Hybrid ( 17.5 degrees). Hit 6 GIR today which is an improvement. One step back
Tee shots still too short. I think I am / know I am trying to steer the ball into play rather than letting the club go. it is killing my club head speed. I tried measuring my club head speed in the net later and it went from low 80s to 89 mph in 5 minutes. Looser grip and arms to get a swishing happening.July 14, 2020 at 7:42 pm #12594xrman
ParticipantToday I scored 86 /38 points in the local club competition.
Two steps forward
1) short game worked well today. Chipping and putting
2) I hit 6 GIR( again) getting the distances right with the Milford SL-7 irons. Approach shots were generally close to the green. One step back
1) tee shots on two holes were poor. One was a shanked iron shot, the other was a poor club choice for an into the wind shot1 user liked this post.

go and play the Plus 20 m game.after your tee shot, pick up ball and move it further down fairway an extra 20 m. then play from there.
see what number of strokes that 20 m has on you total score for round. BUT also if you are in rubbish move 20 m down and also in rubbish.
try it, and see how much difference it really makes. my guess is it will only improve you by1 to 2 shots. You can then decide whether to spend $5000 to gain that extra 20m and 2 shots.also you said tow bad tee shots, golf is a hard game and the pro’s dont hit every tee shot perfect.

That is a good idea; the plus 20 m game. I will give that a try.
It is evident that shorter tee shots makes a longer approach shot necessary. if you are good at them, it isn’t an issue. However the shorter the shot into the green, the more likely it is that the ball ends up on the green. The issue I have is that my tee shot length is erratic. I know in the winter conditions ( dense air/ no run or very little) I can usually get 180-190 m if I hit it well. I have been playing around with my tee shots to try to increase distance, and when I get it right it is a 190 m shot. When I don’t it is 170 m ( too much spin). It is a work in progress. Time and practising the shots will hopefully lead to improvement.
I had a good look at Arccos Caddies’ methods. The handicap rating the App applies to your game is in reference to a scratch player. It rates the distance and accuracy of tee shots in comparison to a scratch player. It gives you a rating in each game and an average rating over the last 10 games. ( Tee shots, approach shots, chipping, sand and putting). It is a tool to direct you in identifying where you need to improve.

ParticipantTo elaborate on the Arccos Caddie App handicap ratings, it has given me the following numbers for my last 10 games.
Tee shots (26) , approach ( 16) , chipping ( 7) , sand ( 4) , putting (6). Overall rating 13.2. in comparison to my GA 17.2
So in my last game it rated my games tee shots at 30 + handicap , so my driving game was worse than average.

So whats the answer (secret ) to improvement.
clearly Arcoss is saying to go out and hit 1000 practice balls and gain an extra 25m on your driver.
play the plus 20m game and see what arcoss gives you as a driving handicap. What does your on line coach Jim Venetos say about your driving swing

What is the secret to improvement? That is a complex question. Ask 10 golfers and you’d get ten different lists.
My list
1) develop consistent ball strike. I learnt this from Jim Venetos.
2) find golf clubs that suit your style and only keep a club in the bag if you can hit it reliably.
3) know your distances for each club ( 25,50,75,100% power shots)/ get a range finder and use it a lot.
4) learn course management methods. ( I like Golf Sidekick’s videos)
5) keep your cool when you mess up. The next shot is more important than being upset over the last one.
6) learn how to shape your shots. draw and fade to get around obstacles like treesMy last game I hit 86; Arccos gave me a rating of 18 handicap level for my tee shots ( my actual GA was 17.2). I hit more fairways and got a bit more distance. The App rating is a way of indentifying where the weakness in each golfers game is located. It doesn’t suggest how to remedy the situation.
I might give your suggestion a go tomorrow ( the + 20m ) and see what happens to the rating.
I doubt that I will ever gain 25m more on my Driver shots . If can keep them between 190-200 m I would be happy.. I am going to see if a different ball ( higher compression rating/ harder) might help gain a few metres.
Jim has requested that I send him a video of my Driver swing. I took the video, but self assessed that it was crap and have made a few changes that seem to have helped. I plan to send a new video this week.

1) I messed up three tee shots& bladed a chip across the last green. About 5 shots lost that could have been avoided.July 21, 2020 at 11:23 pm #12755Can break 80

Here are the 10 rules of scoring according to Will Robins.
he found with his scoring method system that Double bogeys come from breaking one of these rules.1. missed short putts under 1.5m
2.penalty strokes
3.not getting out of trouble and safely back in play
4 having 3 putts
5 Under clubbing
6.Playing risky shots, ie a shot you are not capable of playing
7 short siding on approach
8 holding on to bad shots
9 misreading the lie of the shot
10 starting poorly1 user liked this post.

To be fair I hadn’t thought of those as being a single thing that led to double bogies – generally I assumed it took a couple of them
And I’m uncertain what starting poorly means – but it’s a nice catch all
I’d suggest adding finishing poorly though to complete the setJuly 22, 2020 at 3:42 pm #12772BumpunRun
ParticipantAnd playing poorly in the middle part too.
And misreading the lie of the shot, as in how the ball is sitting on the ground? Like, I was sure it was on grass and not this concrete cart path before i hit and I should have let go of the club after that bad shot?
Or does he mean the read of the putt?July 22, 2020 at 4:36 pm #12778OldBogey
Participant10 ‘rules’ for scoring? What a wank !
We all know when we’ve stuffed up without making a list of how many of each. That, in itself, is breaking rule 8.None of us is a perfect golfer, mistakes are inevitable. We know there are parts of our game which exhibit regular errors and that we should do some work &/or get help to reduce those. The only use for a list is to take it to your coach if you have one.
