    8) Holding on to bad shots? Emotionally, does he mean?

    10) starting poorly; That would be my poor tee shots, or does he mean starting the game poorly. I do that too often, taking a few holes to warm up. Possibly trying to whack them too hard and forgetting to watch the ball is my problem ( in golf)

For me 1,5,7 are things that I do often.

    Two steps forward
    1) I have been trying to get a 160 m club for approach shots. I had a Cobra FLy Z 5-7 wood. I had a 42.5 inch shaft and for some reason I could not get it reliable enough to hit 160m. I had the shaft reduced by as inch and at 20 degree it hit 160 m practically every time.
    2) I added 3gm of lead tape on the heel of my Driver. Now I am getting a reliable draw shape and less side spin on my fades. Confidence inspiring.

    One step back
    1) The improved equipment still relies on me to swing it properly.

8 emotionally, how many times do people hit a bad shot or have an out and think I am playing so bad or fiddle with swing or get ngry on next two tee shots.

10 starting off poorly, means exactly that, not being prepared to play no warm up or practice putt, then 3 putt first 3 holes etc and or starting with bad holes from being to aggressive. start slowly build in ot the round.

And playing poorly in the middle part too.

And misreading the lie of the shot, as in how the ball is sitting on the ground? Like, I was sure it was on grass and not this concrete cart path before i hit and I should have let go of the club after that bad shot?
Or does he mean the read of the putt?

assess lie, means is what it says do you assess the lie, very few shots re played from flat lies like at range, is lie up hill, down hill, soft and fluffy, sitting on thin grass., also means in bunkers.
I know not paying attention to this factor of lie has cost me heaps of stfd points in past.

Yep I do 8 as you described… did so today, frustrated that I wasn’t striking it the way I was the last couple practice rounds and it went from bad to worse… mental side of golf is huge.

mental side of golf is huge.

Take out #2 and the mental aspect of your game can pretty well cover the other 9 components of his 10. Certainly shortens the list a fair bit.

I learnt this saying from a Canadian guy. “Some will, some won’t, so what! Next!” I call it the SW factor. If I hit poor shot I like to review what I could have done better, then drop it. I can’t change the outcome. It is over. It is a bit like being upset with a poor bounce, or these days lack of any bounce and run. I can’t control that, so why get upset over it.

    I dunno
Part or golf is sharing your disappointment and confusion about why your ball goes 90 degrees sideways into the trees and finishes behind a huge root while theirs bounces off the tree and into the middle of the fairway

If you can luxuriate in your misery and cry angry tears to the Golf Gods you’re missing out on half the fun

    You had me at “luxuriate”

Well we “luxuriated” at Dartmoor Golf club, a tiny town on the S.A. border. It has a well drained 9 hole course on the banks of the Glenelg River. It was a balmy day ( by Victorian standards) with light winds and patches of sunny conditions. Green fees $15 / day or $25 / week.

    Two steps forward
    1) The Driver worked! draw shots on command, reasonable distance. Oh, what a feeling!
    2) Approach shots peppered the greens

    One step back
    1) The small fast greens had our measure for most of the game. They were difficult to read for visiting golfers.

I played a social game with 3 other players this morning. Fine, but cool and a heavy dew.

    Two steps forward
    1) I hit a 43 for 9 holes .
    2) I found a ball I really like . Snell MTB-X.

    One step back
    1) I over did the side spin on my 2H and one Driver shot= two double bogeys. I push faded a few tee shots still.

I would say 43 with 2 double bogeys is a step forward not back. so what if you hit two slices, that could just be you on the day, no need to race out and make major modifications to your swing just because two shots go astray, when the day before you hit lovely draw shots.
You are not going to hit every drive perfectly, even PGA tour players miss fwys off tee.at best they hit 75 % fairways.
    stick with the process.
more the thing to look to really improve is why the Double bogeys. ?
so you hit into trees and unless completely unplayable, chip out safely, hit 3rd shot on and 2 putt.

Good advice thanks. Because I was just playing a social game I tried a hero shot on one of the too right side fades. Cost 2 shots. It was me thinking,” I wonder if I can fade/slice a 6i that much”? I know now that I can’t. I learnt that I need to aim more left with my hybrid fade shot, so the doubles were not wasted.

Being retired means I can go out and try again this morning. Bonus!

I hit a 78 this morning BUT I was playing off the front tees, except for hole 14 where I wanted to hit over the water into the wind to see how my 2 Hybrid performed. So this is what it feels like to be a long hitter! The only issue is that the bunkers I can’t usually reach are within my distance off the forward tees.

    Two steps forward
    1) I drove better off the tee today. More distance and good draw shape.
    2) Hybrid shots were better direction wise today.

    One step back

    1) Putting : I missed a few close ones by not controlling the face.
