It will be a good afternoon for staying indoors. The front has just passed through Portland, heading east. It rained solidly for three hours. Just what we need ; more mud!

Just don’t drive back through Melb at night, you might get locked up. Then again, you’d get a clear run.

What gets me is that the club says that, due to the wet season, no more than two carts per group. So I might have to share my cart with a non-regular which, in itself, is no problem. After the round, we sit around in the lounge in small groups, imbibing with a few drinks (no masks) and in close proximity to other such groups. As there has never been any covid cases out here, this scenario is no real problem, until such time as it is.
Now for the bit that peeves me. We aren’t allowed to have any guests in our homes so we can’t have our usual Wed drinks. Our only opportunity is at the clubhouse after golf. I live alone so I can’t meet with anyone at home other than an intimate partner and none of my golfing mates qualify, but they’re all married anyway. It just seems ridiculous that we can meet and drink, along with many others, at the club but not just a few of us at home.
Yes, I know. But golfers always have something to complain about. I am a country member.

I hear you OB. Living alone and not being able to have any social contact for weeks sucks.
Another ridiculous rule is the it is O.K. to exercise outside with hundreds of mask wearing strangers, with unmasked runners and cyclists leaving a trail of exhalation wafting behind them, yet I am forbidden to walk around the golf course solo swinging the clubs. Why? I am a country member too. We have Bookatee on the club website, so you need never be near another human when on the course. One player every ten minutes, pay your fees online. Why no golf then? Well allowing golf to proceed would be a bad look, not egalitarian enough for our illustrious leader. Perhaps it was the risk of golfers driving a bit far from home, yet surfers drove around and congregated out on the sea waiting for the big ones.
I was mildly peeved during the previous State wide lock downs, when locally we had not had a case of Covid for 12 months or so. It did not compute at first. Now I understand why OIL mandated that rural areas must cease production. It was to reinforce the non- existent ring of steel around Melbourne. Let me explain. If there was noting to do out in the sticks, the motivation for dick heads from Melbourne to escape was lessened. It is cheaper for Dan not to have to pay the Police to do the Ring Of Steel, even if they had the manpower to do it well.
Now that we have a modicum of freedom, the escapees are building in number as time passes. The businesses are being used as unpaid warders, being threatened with fines if they serve the escapees. That is a win win situation for the government .
One of the local cafe owners saw a heap of non-locals lining up to get fed and watered. She thinned the crowd by yelling out, ” If any of you are from Melbourne, you might as well FO now, because we won’t serve you!” Welcome to country !1 user liked this post.
A couple of WW2 comedy shows come to mind, ‘Allo Allo’ and ‘Hogans Heroes’. Imagine how different those scenarios would be if the local prison camp had typhoid fever running amok.

On my ‘stuck at home’ days, I’ve been watching streaming stuff, mostly Netflix.

Nothing on the news or club website (obviously no-one told anyone). Load up and go to the course only to be told that we have all joined in to the complete state lockdown and everyone has to be off the course (and at home) by 1:00 today. Comp cancelled. Just because there has been a handful of covid cases 400 Km away.There’s another couple of hundred voters who definitely will not vote for Dickhead Dan and his cronies at the next election. I’m only talking about the golfers at our club. Some 40,000 in the near vicinity, millions state wide. He’s a panic merchant with no management skills whatsoever.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have a problem with being reasonably cautious in a carefully planned manner. But he’s just ruthlessly stupid with no consideration for the upheaval he causes.

Progress is man's ability to complicate simplicity.You have under estimated Dan’s political skill. He knows that in rural Victoria we don’t vote for the ALP, except in the regional cities. Therefore upsetting us will not affect his power base. His ” ring of steel” keeping folks within lock down areas failed (again), but it was inevitable since transport drivers should have been #2 on the vaccination list, had anyone in government bothered to learn from the 1919 Pandemic (the big one). They are the main vector of transmission, other than the dickheads in denial that have been infiltrating even out as far as Portland.

Comrade Dan is closely following the communist manifesto: invoking a police state, destroying private enterprise making everyone dependent on the government for survival, subsuming any remaining enterprises into government instrumentalities, banning social interaction, jailing dissenters.

I really hope that your all your sake that this doesn’t blow out to a few days of over 60odd cases with punters traveling and spreading the virus. I reckon there’s going to be full state lockdowns if it starts spreading too much.
