Wow…very spacious…and the smell of newly painted. I think I’m going to like this place….let me know when Commish “Officially” cuts the ribbon, followed by one of his articulate speeches….

As for Christmas 2019…….I happen to have the next two days off and we’ll have Rees’s daughter (Elaina) spending the night with us on Christmas eve. Looking forward to seeing her Christmas morning opening her presents. Things are tight…. so it will be a quiet day at home for us.

Watch out for the wet paint near the bar- needs a few more hours to dry.

Have a great Holiday season Francie- I know its been a rough year for you and the fam. We can only hope 2020 is much better than 2019.

PS: What is the beverage of choice for this joint? Have to get an order in before New Years!

PSS: The below is where I envision the Deck is located.

Spending Xmas day with the family and as per usual it will be a lengthy process of enjoying the time with loved ones and watching the look on the faces of the Great Grand daughter and other Grand kids as they open their presents. Of course there will also be the copious amounts of food, cold refreshing brown ale and the obligatory bottle or 3 of red grape juice whilst waiting for the sun to set. The day will close as it always does with a steaming bowl of xmas pudding and custard, washed down with a glass or two of 25yr old port and a nice espresso.

I’m sure Francie your day will be one of joy, given that those that you love and want around you will be there. It may not have been the happiest of lead ins you wished for, but we should all be thankful to be able to share the day with our nearest and dearest. Soak up the joy that Elaina will bring to the day. The warm smile and heartfelt glee of a child opening their presents at Christmas is infectious. Wishing you, Sue, Rees and Elaina a happy and holy Xmas.

And the same goes out to the rest of you knuckleheads that are and will become the L4G family.

Very quiet Xmas. Just Mrs Toph and our 2 boys. Early Jan 1st off to Tokyo then skiing in Japan. Sounds glamorous but first holiday for 12 months. It’s been a bit of a tough 2 years business wise. I hope 2020 is better but it’s all up to me. It then I’m The Toph.

Christmas….. been trying to think of a speech I made a few years ago at golfie after a rough year for some….. went something like this….

“I would like to wish one and all a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year, to those who have a new face at the Christmas table this year enjoy the time with your new child, or extended family it is special. To those who this year have an empty chair at the table our thoughts are with you, it will be a very different and in some cases a very hard day to cope with and our thoughts are with you as you deal with day as best as you can. I am not going to name names as I will miss someone but I would like you all to be upstanding and have a toast to those we have lost in our community this year…….”

My Christmas… I’ve got a good supply of prawns, ham, smoked salmon, avocado’s and fresh bread to go with a few Jameson Irish Whiskey Smooth Dry and Lime cans and some good vino….

Merry Christmas to all, will have a quiet drink for PJ at some stage

Christmas Day starts today, Christmas Eve around the Hack Household neighbourhood…

Today is chores day like mow lawns, clean outdoor furniture, wash down decks, etc Get supplies, like beer and seafood, gas bottle, etc.

Everyone near me is doing the same.

By mid afternoon FIL arrives. It’s fluff around chores while having a few beers, oysters, prawns, etc. We wander around visiting the neighbours and helping with and last minute maintenance issues at various houses as and when needed. All while having a beer or three.

Mates drop around and have a beer or two, and then after dark it’s the Dads army into full gear helping out together whatever wherever for those younger kids still in aw of Santa. There’ll be bikes and swings, jungle gyms, cubby houses, trampolines etc. The number is getting less as our kids grow up, but this year a few new young families are in the nearby streets so we’re lined up to help.

Tomorrow is early surf (no longer any excited young kids waiting for Santa in the Hack household), coffee and presents. Then traditional fried eggs and ham for breakfast mid morning.

Mrs Hack gets a WASJIG puzzle every year and starts it after breakfast. FIL and daughter periodically help. I avoid it like the plague.

The caddie will get some electronic thing that requires my attention for set up. That will take a couple of beers.

Mrs Hack does a roast on the BBQ. I do seafood, calamari, scallops, prawns, etc. while the roast cooks. Roast is eaten mid to late afternoon.

We finish after dark, stuffed, and ready for rest but the pavlova beckons and we stuff ourselves some more.

    Then.

Boxing Day is up early for a surf before heading to SIL for the day. More prawns n oysters etc while roast cooks. FIL and I watch start of Sydney to Hobart then switch over to the cricket. We use games room at SIL house to play billiards, drink beers, eat prawns etc until roast is ready late afternoon. I usually have a sleep mid afternoon.

My wife drives home as I’ve usually had a dozen or so beers.

Then I look at my fat bloated guts the next morning and decide I don’t need to eat for a week.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

Hope it’s a safe and fun one for you and your loved ones.

Merry Christmas L4G family, our family shall be at home this year, minus 2 sons in other parts of the country. First time in 34 years, Christmas will be meat free, so really am looking forward to Mrs Bens menu, waffles for breakfast, roast vegetables, salads and fruit platters. If you are travelling be safe, have a drink for absent family and friends, and may Christmas be all you want it to be. Take care, Ah Ben
