A couple ordinary tournament rounds means my hçap slips above my mid year goal with no more golf before 30 June.

Restrictions eased just in time for me to get out of Melbourne to play in the Beaufort Annual Tournament. Started on Friday in the 4BBB and threw off some of the rust that has built up by not playing. Both myself and partner played pretty solid and would have played to our handicaps but no big scores so only 40 points between us.

Early start for the 36 hole event – driving into the course nearly cleaned up a kangaroo (it actually ended up jumping into the back quarter panel of the car). Way to wake me up in the morning. Anyway putrid golf couldn’t get anything happening putts didn’t want to drop, missing fairways, duffing chips you name it. Ended up with 88 (nett 81), 85 (nett 78). While the golf wasn’t great the weekend was awesome.

GOLF is on – I can get out of Melbourne – might sit at home for next 2 days to avoid inadvertently stumbling in to an exposure site.

Just go the town folk at Beaufort will be very pleased to see you, and will welcome you.

from driving around lately seems there are no police patrolling the regional areas.
dont get caught for speeding, as that is only way they will track you down

    enjoy the tournament.

While I agree that 99.9% of people would have no issue of me being there, it is the 0.1% that may say something. My family is well renowned in the area and have been an integral part of the golf club, I wouldn’t risk my being there to reflect back on the club in a negative way.
So fingers crossed that we get an easing announced today.
Besides I am supposed to be playing on Friday with my brother in-law who is a copper.

Hoping against hope that restrictions are eased before Friday. Have entered in the Beaufort GC Annual Tournament this weekend (absolute cracker of a weekend). But unfortunately still locked down to 25km.

    Fingers Crossed.

Does chipping in the backyard count??. Hoping that we get the all clear for me to get up to Beaufort for their annual Tournament on the 19th June.

I grew up playing Beaufort so great to hear your feedback on our little country track. It has it’s winter tournament coming up around the week of the 14th to 20th June if you are in the area. I’ll be up there on the Friday (4BBB S’ford) and Saturday (36 Hole Stroke).

The Ballarat courses are a bit more polished than Beaufort but suffer (with the exception of Ballarat GC) during winter and most years will be shut for a few weeks or require tee up etc.

Ballarat area spoiled for golf for 9-10 months a year.

As far as my preferences would go for courses in the area (not inc. Beaufort):
Buninyong – great layout tree lined traditional course
Ballarat – Maintained best, best drainage, best practice facilities. Newer layout more open. Layout OK with the exception of a couple of holes.
Midlands – Improved over last 10 years with tree planting etc. Layout OK but a little boring
Xavier – Not as polished as others – haven’t played for a few years so won’t comment .
Forest Resort – Not enjoyable especially in drier months due to losing balls that land in the middle of fairways.

Hey love to find out what everyone thinks of this club? Good course? How was your experience?

    asking for a friend.

Grew up in the area so have played Ballarat GC quite a bit. Probably the pick of the courses in the area for both layout and condition. Fairways are well covered with Santa Anna and fairly generous in width the greens are generally firm and a good pace. As far as year round goes it holds up better than the other courses in Ballarat with better drainage although still expect it to be unplayable for a couple of weeks in the middle of a cold Ballarat winter.

I always enjoy playing at Ballarat but unless you can carry the ball 260+ you end up taking a lot of irons from the tee to avoid creeks etc. which frustrates the hell out of me.

Membership wise it is the most expensive in the area but doesn’t have problem filling the field of a weekend so will have to book ahead for your round. They have the best on course practice facilities, well stocked pro shop with friendly staff.

Overall Ballarat is great club although you’re spoiled for choice in the area with Buninyong and Midlands both strong courses (although do tend to hold water in winter (do you want to play in the middle of a Ballarat winter anyway), Mt Xavier (is alright at the cheaper membership end of the spectrum), and surrounding country courses like Beaufort (which has it’s annual tournament coming up in the middle of June).

Maybe not how I played but…..I took my 10 year old to her first “tournament” today in the Primary School Golf at Mandalay. It was icy cold, windy and pretty constant drizzle but she had an absolute ball – playing around with her new best friend she just met on the 1st tee. She shot 57 on a 9 hole shortened course, made a great new friend (who won the girls) and qualified for the next Regional event at La Trobe GC.
Great day and the best thing she is already planning more golf tournaments just need to work on her putting (5 putts on the 1st hole).

The old adage of “If it’s not broke don’t fix it”. I tend to avoid the newest and greatest crazes and internet lessons, golf is hard enough already without thinking about too many things when standing over the ball. I don’t have many lessons but when I do it is with the same club pro, he knows my swing and how to get the best out of it. As a result my ball striking is pretty solid and consistent.

Chipping and putting on the other hand ………….

Might as well share my antiques with everyone, I think the newest thing there would date back to around 2005 Who knows one day I might upgrade again.

Driver: Exotics XCG-5 9 degree. Tour AD40 Stiff
    Fairway Wood: Titileist 909 F2 15 degree.
Hybrid: Adams Idea A12 17 degree
    Irons: Cleveland CG4 3-PW (Dynamic Gold S300)
    Wedges: Cleveland CG11 54 deg / 60 deg
Putter: Odyssey Dual Force 770 – RIFE fat grip
Golf Bag: Titleist tour bag (don’t use often) Callaway lightweight bag of preference
    Buggy: Smoothy
    Clothing: Most of the time
    Shoes: Puma something or others
    Glove: Mizuno
Golf Ball: Bridgestone Tour B XS
    Sunscreen: Should wear more

Other: Various clubs lying around but all at least 20 years old.

    Just a short update.

Been dabbling with a Srixon 785 Driver – felt good bought it. Took it on the course couldn’t hit it, Took it to a range couldn’t hit it, took it to a simulator couldn’t hit it any better than my old Exotics XCG5 – Ball speed the same, distance carry within 2 yards and dispersion no better with old driver. Sold it again on Marketplace.

Missing a lot of puts to the left – a pro I was playing with suggested that I should try something without as much toe hang. Went into Drummonds trying putter after putter kept coming back to the Wilson Staff Infiniti Windy City. Love the way it sets up for me and the look behind the ball. Now have stopped missing putts left and are currently missing them to the right (will persevere) – so in the bag (for now).

Only other gear change I’ve had is glove now a Footjoy.

Hit my mid year goal. Now to consolidate and push to my end of year goal.

Don’t get out very often these days, due to kids sport etc. especially now that I was coopted into coaching my girls Aussie Rules team. Probably only have a couple more comp rounds until mid year. If I can hold onto my single figure GA to mid year and push to go lower in second half of the year I’d be happy.

To be honest just happy to be getting out for an odd semi solid round of golf and having a hit at the range or backyard with the kids.

Played Good Friday in a RCH fundraiser. Started double, bogey, bogey. Manage to hold it largely together for 16pts on front nine. Back nine was pretty solid with 6 pars, 1 birdie, 1 bogey but a triple bogey (numerous trees after a wayward drive). 20 pts on the back for a solid 36 pts and another counter. Didn’t do anything particularly well but didn’t do anything badly either.

First full 18 since my latest injury. Camping down at Port Fairy for the long weekend got out Sunday afternoon with one of my mates. Still protecting my knee with minimal transfer of weight through the ball (psychological issue) swung a bit easier and probably down 10-15 yards off the tee but seemed to work OK.

    Front nine: 40 OTS
Back nine: 43 OTS (2 lost ball penalties when knee started to fatigue)

No birdies but heaps of opportunities from around the 10-12 feet range just kept burning the edge of the hole so could have been substantially better.
Absolutely love the course down there. For under $50 green fees to play a course like that is incredible, the coastal views, the layout, the challenge of the links style. Not as polished as other great courses but that is part of the charm. If you are anywhere near there check it out and book in.
