ParticipantI think we will head back to the country on Wednesday. I reckon I can sit for an hour or so on my cushion now, then stop every hour to stretch out; repeat. I can’t drive for 6 weeks it seems, but I am walking a kilometer three times daily now. I still look a bit like Poirot in my gait, but I think I can walk the course and chip and putt for a month or so. I have a ball retriever sorted so I can avoid bending my hip/ body past 90 degrees.
I’m due for one next year. Can’t drive for 6 weeks!!! That’s the only way I can get food.

ParticipantStab at Warra yesterday, lovely golf weather although a little chilly as clouds rolled over.
Teed off at 11:00 and the course was virtually deserted for our 2nd nine.
Only one 3-putt for the day, finishing with 32 putts. Missed a few easy ones that I shouldn’t have. Not enough 1-putts.
29 points with only one 3-point and a few messed up holes.I’m not a great football fan although I like to hear that Geelong has won. When I got home, I watched the 2nd half. That was no contest. Some of the preliminary finals were far more entertaining.

ParticipantStab at Warra yesterday. Warm sunny weather and the course was chockers with public holiday.
I play an ‘internal’ comp where I like my points to exceed my putts. This still gives me something to strive for when my scoring is not so good.
After 9 holes, I had 17 of each. But on 10-13 I had 2-putts with 1-point, leaving points 4 behind the putts. 14 & 15 were both 2/2, still 4 down. 16 was a mess but I 1-putted for no score; 5 down. All was not lost, but not promising.
Drive on 17 was mediocre into left rough. It’s a long (for me) uphill par 4 with 2 handicap strokes. 2nd shot, 4h, stayed in the rough with poor advancement. Another 4h sailed beautifully toward the rh side of the green which can’t be seen over the crest. My ball had found its way onto the green just a couple of feet from the pin. In for 4 for 4 points, 1 putt. My aim is still achievable. The 18th is a downhill par 3, nearly 200m with large trees lining both sides all the way to the green. My drive clipped a tree but came back toward the fairway leaving a clear 80m to the pin. An up-&-down would do it. Pitch was a bit short leaving a long putt which skimmed the hole. In for 4, 2 points, 2 putts.
End result: 33 putts, 31 points. Oh well.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantPar at Warra yesterday.
Playing par, handicapping is on equivalent stab points. As I stood on the 9th tee, I had amassed +1 (=17 pts) and with 11 putts. Exactly the same as last Thurs. Again, things went downhill but not to the same extent as Thurs.
At the turn, my score was even with 12 putts. I finished with -2 and 30 putts.
Every hole on the back was 2 putts. No 3-putts at all for the day.
The greens had been freshly mown and were much firmer in the fine, sunny weather.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStab at Warra yesterday. Although rain threatened, we didn’t get wet. Course was wet underfoot and with a few puddles.
I started the round well, a chip-in, some 1-putts, some 3-points. After 8 holes, I stood on the 9th tee and mused that I might actually have a good round for a change. I had amassed 17 points and with just 11 putts.
Playing the 9th, I pushed my tee shot into a large pine on the right, my ball dropped into long rough under it and I fiddled my way to the green in 5 then 2 putts.
As I stood on the 10th tee, I had amassed 17 points with 13 putts. My tee shot hit a tree trunk on the left and rebounded down the 1st. Second shot was well struck but hit a tree trunk and rebounded back down the 10th. Finally on the green for four and 3-putted.
As I stood on the 11th tee, I had amassed 17 points with 16 putts. Tee shot good, 2nd shot went fishing for marlin with a big hook left. On the green for 3 then 3-putted.
As I stood on the 12th tee, I had amassed 18 points and 19 putts.
So much for my promising round !!! I had more rubbish and a few good holes, finishing with 28 points and with 33 putts.
Another 0.1 onto my capped ‘cap, creeping toward a hard cap just .8 away.OB just remember the famous words from Kenny Rogers,” you never count your score when you are half way through the game, there will be time enough for counting when the round is done”.
So many players count score after 9 holes, been very guilty of doing this myself. I used to do this but then stopped because it builds tension and this causes you to force a score and make wrong shot decisions.
Electronic scoring means the running totals are always there on screen, no additions required.
We usually do a matchup @ 9 holes, just to make sure we’ve pressed the right buttons.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStroke at Warra yesterday.
Gross 99, nett 77 Putting was terrible, nothing would drop. Six 3-putts, only four 1-putts, total 38.
Without all those 3-putts, I would’ve had a decent score. When have 3 putts its good to look at cause speed control (long or short) or direction (miss Left or Right)
sometimes its not putter fault, if you hit your approach to green a long way 10m from hole, then have every chance of having 3 putt.A couple of approach shots were well off the mark but first putts were close. The holes were just unfriendly. Uneven ground near the holes. All in the group had the same problem. The ground was soft and made uneven by previous players’ foot prints. Some missed left, some right, no consistency.

ParticipantI played Par golf for the fist time on Saturday at Portland. I played with Adriano and his brother George form Brazil. Tony joined us and gave us a lesson in controlled golf. He chose a good time to play out of a 3 month slump.
Now I am in Adelaide. Geoff and I played the Executive course near the airport, possibly my last game prior to hip surgery. It will give my sore left shoulder a good rest.
Good luck with the hip, let us know how it goes.

ParticipantMM stroke & putting at Beacy yesterday.
How’d I play? Crap. Nett 84, 34 putts. The putts just would not drop. All in the group has the same problem.
Handicap score of 24 points was well off the worst and, obviously, well off the winners.
Another stroke onto handicap, nearing a hard cap. Forthcoming fine weather should help reverse it.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

It felt like I just couldn’t do a thing right. Drives weren’t too bad, but the rest was crap.
Just 9 points on the front nine, 15 back in. 33 putts.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantMultiplication stab at Warra yesterday. The team performed poorly and we were nowhere near any prizes.
I had one wipe, only a couple of 3-points, total 30 points. 35 putts.
I duffed too many chips (hitting them fat, scraping the ground) leaving long putts.Cortisone in the hip helped tremendously. Nearly all drives were straight and in play.
Weather was great. Kiss winter goodbye. It’s going to rain all this coming week then we’ll be in spring.

ParticipantStab at Warra yesterday. First round for quite a while, with operations when the weather was good, then pissing down when I could’ve played.
30 points, 30 putts. With only 13 putts on the front nine, the points got well ahead of the putts, but the putts slowly caught up on the back.
Cortisone injection in the hip today. Maybe that will help for tomorrow if we don’t get rained out.Too wet for carts yesterday although sunshine for most of the day.
Hip is feeling normal again. I might do something radical today, like mow the lawn.
More rain expected this coming week.
