ParticipantThat adds nothing to the question of whether they are robust enough
We played Gailes yesterday and a member at Jindalee had a lower cap there than at his home course – but those who have played both tell me that Jindalee is an easier not harder course
So I remain doubtful about the quality of the ratings
I agree about the ratings – they don’t really produce comparable results. But at least they’re trying.

ParticipantIt seems that indoor sporting facilities will be closed.
That allows golf courses to continue to allow play even if the clubhouse is closed.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantIs this a range finder or a launch monitor?
Sounds more like a launch monitor, but not much use either way if there’s no golf.

ParticipantIt seems that the entire world has now been cancelled. Well, all our golf anyway and there’s not much else.

ParticipantWell that’s it. A complete shutdown. No more golf either.
I wonder if the courses will keep maintaining the grounds or if it will all just go to the dogs.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantI felt a little seedy this morning so I didn’t play. I doubt very much that I might have contracted covid19, but it suited me to have a day off anyway.
A mate (mid 70s) texted to say not golfing and not socialising until further notice. To me, that seems a bit extravagant, but his (or wife’s ) choice.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantI find myself agreeing with multiple points of view here. When we played at Barnbougle the first day we played off the tees recommended for the highest handicap which was the very front markers. Everyone had fun (including me – it was fun having wedges into greens). The next day we played one set further back and it was a mistake – brought a lot of carries in for the higher markers and a lot more lost balls.
I prefer to have a comp tee for the day, but that said, I think that our courses are way too tied to the “traditional” tees. I would like to see some rounds where we play a tee other than the reds, maybe a medal day off the blues followed by one off the golds. I think it adds some interest for different players and means that you have to think a little more about how you are going to play your round. If the blokes played a round off the reds off lower handicaps I think that would be fun for a change as well.
I wonder if the scratch ratings are robust enough to support allowing the field to choose their tee in a comp
I suspect that people who were really keen for an advantage would find a tee (I’m guessing the shortest available) to maximise their scoring chances
Immediately after coring our greens, a gold tee event was held.

ParticipantI might have to reset my goals.
My current GA has dropped to 14.4 after replacing a ’38’ flag with a ’37’ which caused another .3 to come off.
Yes, that dumped flag was after Aust Day and under the new WHS calcs.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStab today at Warra.
On Tues I started with six 1-putts for nearly all pars on those six holes. End result – a crap score.
Today, no 1-putts on any of those six holes. Total for the day was just four 1-putts, one chip-in and two 3-putts.
But the result was 18 & 19 for a 37 point total and third in A grade.I’ve been sure that I couldn’t play to 13, but today proved me wrong.
I lose a 38 point flag off my last 20 and this 37 point will probably drop my handicap further.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStroke at Warra today. Started well (except for a double on the 2nd) with six 1-putts on the first six holes.
Then the wheels wobbled before falling off altogether on the back nine. Only two more 1-putts but also three 3-putts.
A few blowout holes including a 9 on a par 3 without losing a ball.
Nett 86.Might try a supermarket comp tomorrow. If unsuccessful, I could be going hungry soon.

Participant4BBB Stab at Mirboo North with the Vets today.
I played off 13, partner off 18. It was hard work, looking for balls all over the place (they hid well), lost a couple.
We had 34 points, miles off the pace.Stroke at Warra tomorrow.

ParticipantStab at Warra today.
Highlights: no 3-putts. Nothing else really.
A heap of wipes, 10 points out with no 1-putts at all.
Back nine was a bit better, more wipes but five 1-putts and 16 points.Pennant tomorrow, hopefully my brain is working a bit better for that.
