ParticipantI played with two new members, who were playing to establish their handicaps. They were nice young men, strapping tall chaps who could hit the ball a long way. On the odd occasion they hit the fairway, they gained impressive distance. On the other occasions we looked for balls on practically every hole. It was a slow game, but the weather was nice and we were not inconveniencing anyone else, so it was a pleasant game.
My concentration possibly drifted a bit now and then. I could not buy a putt for the first half. They ran up to the hole, or just slid by on a few holes. I score d pars, 7 bogeys and 5 doubles ( 89OTS/ 32 points) . I three putted on hole 4 ( tricky green slope) and 4 putted on hole 6 ( poor method/ but it was always a 3 putt distance), then I failed to escape a bunker on 8 when I tried to roll the ball out with a hybrid only to hit the lip and not roll over ( so near!) and on the 12th I hit my 7w approach shot wide into the scrub.I am still not happy with my tees shots ( 5 tee shots not to position) , 2 outside 100 m approach shots were poor, two inside 100 m iron shot were duds and 2 putts I should not have missed. I think I need to spend some time on the range with Driver to work out why I am hitting them so poorly.
Or you could just go out another day and the drives are (nearly) all good.

ParticipantHow many raters actually visited the courses over the last 2 years?
Actually we all pretty much know the answer, Covid has meant no-one could have travelled in the 2 year period since the last review.
How can raters actually have rated the courses if they could not travel to inspect the courses? They probably just ask the locals if their course is better or not as good as when it was last visited.

ParticipantJust the usual stab at Warra today.
It was more about the putts than the points.
Front nine: two 2-putts and seven 1-putts for an 11 total. Other stuff-ups kept the points down to 19.
And then came the back nine: four 3-putts and only two 1-putts for a 20 total. 15 points.
So, that was 31 putts and 34 points, an ordinary result.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantAgg par at Warra yesterday.
I went ok on the front nine with a +1 but the wheels fell off on the back with just two halves and seven failures.
Putting let me down with three 3-putts and a 35 putt total.
My partner did a bit better but we were never in the hunt.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantIrish stableford at Warra yesterday. A team event that goes something like best score on the first 6, best two scores on the next six and best three on the last six. Computer looks after all that, we just play stab.
Our team was me (19), a gun off 12, his son (new to golf) off 40 something and another lad who’s been playing about a year and now off 17. He’s a scrawny little kid (12 or so), who smacks the ball well past mine.
Everybody else in the group played shithouse but I had a reasonable day. So it goes.
I had 16 out and 19 back for a 35 total which, in a normal comp, would have gotten me 2nd in C grade. Included three 3-points.
Putts: two 3-putts, one chip-in, 14 out, 13 back for a 27 putt total.
Apart from not even getting a ball dtl (awarded to teams), it nearly cost me a stroke off my playing ‘cap.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStab at Warra yesterday.
Started with a 3-point par – always a sign of crap to come. Followed up with a heap 1-putt 1-point doubles.
13 putts, 14 points at the turn.
Back nine was mostly 2-putts but one 3-putt and just one 1-putt. I did manage three 3-points and finished with a DB 1-point.
18 putts, 20 points.
Total 34 points.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStroke at Warra today.
We started with a few drops of rain which became persistent drizzle, then to a complete washout by the 6th.
Home again now, trying to dry everything out in the sunshine.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStroke at Warra yesterday (MM washed out last week).
Front: A couple of early 3-putts matched to a couple of later 1-putts. Racking up an 8 and a 7 (both par 4s) showed how badly I was hitting.
Back: Every hole was 2-putts. Damned ball did whatever it could to stay out of the holes. A few doubles, not enough pars.
Nett 77, 36 putts.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStab at Warra yesterday.
Close to duplicating a round from lasr week with a shocker on the front but a good back nine.
Two wipes on the front, one from a three in a bunker which I should have easily cleared. The other was also from a two in a bunker. Three 1-points and only one 3-point. So, that was 18 putts and 12 points.
The back nine had a solitary 1-point, three 3-points and a four-point. Five 1-putts for a 13 putt total with 22 points.
Totals: 34 points with 31 putts.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

Participant4BBB Stab at Warra today.
Partner and I both had 9 scores with 21 points each and 21 points on each half.
With our 42 total, we’ll be lucky to get a ball DTL.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantVets at Berwick-Montuna today.
I didn’t count putts but I know I had one 3-putts and around a half dozen 1-putts. The greens were somewhat slow early on but dried out toward lunch.
A couple of wayward drives resulted in wipes plus a third wipe when I knicked a wedge shot off the toe and into the bush.
I did manage around four 3-points but had more 1-points for a 28 point total.
The A grade winner only managed 32 points, but the lesser grades found a few better scores.
Can’t blame the course, it was in great condition. I do blame the course and slope ratings. The ‘system’ doesn’t achieve the equalisation that was intended.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantStab at Warra today in lovely warm weather.
Front nine was a shocker despite two 3-point holes. Putts refused to drop but leered at the hole as the slipped by. Drives were ok, shame about the rest.
Three 3-putts and only one 1-putt for a total of 20 putts.
As for points, five wipes, two 2-points, two 3-points for just 10 points at the turn.
Back nine was like a different day.
Six 1-putts and three 2-putts, = 12 putts.
No wipes, two 1-points, three 2-points and four 3-points for a 20 total.
Overall, 30 points with 32 putts.People say that nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.

ParticipantWest Gippsland Vets vs South Gippy Vets at Warragul yesterday.
A poor attendance by Souths, only 18 players bothered, but their scoring was better than Wests (64 players). Their average was 29 points while ours was only 26.
The course was in excellent condition and the club put on a good feed for us all.
I only scored 30 points, but at least I beat the average.
The weather was kind to us, although there was strong heat from the sun towards the end, high 20s.I put in an apology with the captain, I had grandparent baby sitting duties with grandson.(as good as it gets)
.
It quality of golfer not the number, as Souths sent our quality 18 playersEven then, they were bribed to play with the district paying 60%. Who said there’s no such thing as a free lunch?

Started in a bit of light drizzle which soon cleared up.
Front: one wipe, three 1-points and a solitary 3-point for a 14 point total, 17 putts.
