ParticipantHave had a horrid run of form had 1 round better than 30 points in 7 rounds before today ….
Had 37 points and missed 2 gimmies in the last 4 holes … best I’ve been with the driver for a while . 90 off the stick when I’ve only broken 90 twice
Hc has gone out a little and 2 flagged rounds dropping out next 3 rounds but hopefully I figured something out today

ParticipantSingles match play today he was off 5 i was off 19.
i won 3 & 2. Really happy with that even though he gave me 14 shots he was quality if I got worse than a bogey I was more than likely going to lose the hole. The key to me winning was on the 4 holes I didn’t get a shot, I parred 3 of them and halved them all.
Played Saturday as well and had 27 points so HC is stalling but the ball striking is there.

ParticipantUpdate:
Have stalled a little bit lately have had a few rounds in the 20 point range. Driving is hit and miss, putting is hit and miss, rest of game is ok.
Have ordered my clubs been waiting about 5 weeks now for them to come in. If I can find more fair ways my HC will come down I’m sure of it just have to fix that part of it.
Played 4bbb match play first round of tournament on the weekend with my mate I play with regularly. We won 5 up so on to the next round.
Playing singles match play this week against a guy off 6 so that will be interesting!

ParticipantUpdate: Had second fitting session on Sunday. We have locked in nearly all of the bag for me.
3 & 5 wood Titleist
5-6 iron Titleist t300
7-48 Titleist t200
54 & 60 Vokey wedgesAll that’s left is I can decide between the Callaway Mavrik Max or the Titleist TSI2 Driver. In the fitting session I couldn’t miss with the mavrik, on the course I was a little bit off but hit some good ones in between. Potential with the TSI2 seems to be higher but less reliable.. not heaps different but I seem to shank 1 out of maybe 4 with the tsi2, and shank lets say 1 out of 6 or 7 with the mavrik.
The pro is adjusting the weight slightly on the tsi2 and I will take both out again and trial before hopefully making a decision.
Played Monday at Sandhurst with the above set and mavrik driver. Had a stinker with 29 points but can’t blame the clubs for that I was swinging horribly.

ParticipantWell done! The hard part in my experience is to break 90 consistently. It doesn’t take much to bump up your score over ninety.
With your fitting, don’t be seduced by extra distance with a particular club until you check the club’s loft. 7 irons can vary in loft from 33-34 to 26-27 degrees. Buy the one that you can get consistent distance with and the smallest dispersion circle.
Not sure on the lofts but I’ve been trialling a demo set a few times now. To put into context the set I’ve been trying has a 48 degree wedge and I have been hitting that my 9 iron distance. My 9 iron distance hitting about my 7 iron distance etc. I’ve made this little swing adjustment as well and have been drawing the ball, no doubt that is adding distance as opposed to a slice or fade.
Tried the callaway mavrik driver tonight and felt very in control with it. Another fitting session on Sunday to sort out driver woods and wedges. Hopefully have a set in mind to go and order after Sunday.

ParticipantI’m in the market for a new bag. Anyone got any recommendations for a bargain cheap price?

ParticipantUpdate: Well the title is can I break 90, and I did it. I have done twice now once an 87 and another an 89. Before the second lockdown I think I had only scored 30 points once when my handicap was around 19 after just getting my handicap.
Now I think I have hit 33+ in 7 out of my last 10 rounds and am sitting at 18.1.So have definitely improved a lot. I had a fitting with the pro on Sunday and we settled on either the titleist t300s or t200s. I have taken the t300 demo set on course but not yet the t200s. Was getting about 15-20 meter distance increase on a 7 iron which certainly excited me. Am looking at the Callaway Epic speed series for driver and woods have been trialling but we have another fitting session in a week.
The pro also tinkered something with my swing as I was still hitting across and suddenly I started drawing the ball and have been on course since we made the change. On setting up I am aiming way out right and drawing back to middle. If I miss it’s a hook. Such a new concept for me but exciting to see that happening after being a slicer.
Haven’t played a comp round since Jan and not sure when I will again due to commitments but it’s coming along.

ParticipantBryson getting up there with the biggest cockheads on tour the way he’s conducting himself.. the whole fire ants debacle was laughable.

Participanthad a 43 on the front this morning and +2 in par. Probably my best ever or equal to best result for 9. Then had -4 on the back for 93 off the stick and -2.
Blew a golden chance to break 90 for the first time. Picked up on the last 2 holes.
The good news is I’m getting way more balls in play on the driver, it’s still got this strong kind of fade/ slice on it and I lose a bit of distance but it’s way more controlled and in play.
Missed a couple absolutely gimmie putts I tend to do that quite a bit whether I tighten up or just don’t take my time enough. Easy fix because overall putting is going alright.

ParticipantI have a question for anyone who has visited Jon from TPG in Melbourne.
Reading through his thread it seems like his real area of expertise is adjusting existing clubs to fit specs. I’m in the market for new clubs, I’ve had mine since 2013 and they were just off the rack.
My coach I’ve been seeing does club fitting, but it’s $120 for a full fitting and only lasts an hour, which I don’t want to be rushed and want to ensure I’ve explored every avenue during a fitting.. I think from reading up they’ve only got the major brands, they’ve only listed 5 big brands and they’re probably going to be outside of what I’d be willing to spend. I was wondering if I could get fitted well into some srixons or wilsons or something along that price line. I’m prepared to spend on a driver as that’s where I need some help.
So I guess my question has anyone had experience of Jon fitting them into brand new clubs and what kind of range he has?

ParticipantI probably haven’t done a great job of explaining.. overall I’m pretty comfortable in bunkers and also chipping over.. occasionally will stuff one up but more often than not get out well.. it’s just a type of bunker shot that makes me a bit nervous but my explanations don’t really seem to translate so one day when I remember I’ll take a picture that can illustrate it haha.
-4 in par today, my first time in the 30s in points since I got my HC. Out to 18.5 at the moment which is getting closer to where I should be. Today was a nearly round, quite a few lipped putts or approaches that just slightly missed and rolled off the back back off the front etc, buggered up some good positions by just being slightly off.
Didn’t slice a single drive today but was pulling them left a bit.. hope I can meet somewhere in the middle. It’s getting closer!!

ParticipantI can only assume he has the best possible medical advice. Might be they say once it’s done he will be recovering for a long time. Could be like so often with spinal problems that they can’t do much without a big risk of it going wrong and ending up worse.
I hope he finds a way to manage it and get back to his best form. It’s fun watching him putt when he’s on.
He was the best putter on tour at one point but I heard him say he can barely practice putting these days because his back can’t handle repeatedly standing in that position.
