Leave the Driver in the bag and find a club you can hit about 160 m for tee shots and stay on the fairway (4W, 5W, 3 Hybrid?)

When you can control your slice , try the Driver again.

My highest iron is a 5 i probably hit that somewhere between 150 and 160. Have a hybrid and a 3 wood. Can hit the hybrid reasonably, 3 wood comes out similar to the driver so I just leave it alone. I spose that’s why I’m persisting with trying to get the driver swing right, because at the moment I have a handle on the iron swing. If i could find just every second fairway at least I’d have shot under 90 the last few rounds, comfortably. But at the moment I;m pretty much hitting 0 fairways, second shot a lay up, 3rd shot a long shot in because I’m so far back from the sliced right tee shot.

Fact I’m still registering pars and bogies with that type of result off the tee, If I can just figure out this driver swing I’ll be on my way.

So over the last week or so have been able to play a few practice 9s. Yesterday and today (had today off from work), was booked in for 18 and would have completed my cards for my handicap. Unfortunately we’ve had some very heavy rain here and for the first time in about 10 years ( so they say), they closed the front 9 due to the condition. And the 11th tee modified to a par 3 so it wasn’t eligible as a handicap round.

So still have 27 holes left for my handicap. But the good news my scores are progressively getting lower and more consistent. Shot a 47 today which is my lowest since returning to golf. My issue is I probably found 1 fairway with the driver. And when I slice it it sprays straight right into the trees or next fairway so I probably only get about 100 meters of distance toward the hole so nearly every time I’m hitting a side ways lay up.

I spose the good news is I’m still improving without finding fairways. Tried dads driver he has a jumbo grip and for some reason I felt so much more in control, hit 4 or 5 with it as practice and either found the fair way or rough on the right but still playable more of a heavy fade than a slice. Could certainly control it. So spoke to the pro shop and they are gripping my clubs to ‘oversized grip’. I really don’t know much about it but why not lets see if it helps.

3rd lesson tomorrow, really really happy with the progress of my irons I’m either hitting them straight or a fade with clean connection and good distance. huge improvement from a slice and thinning or chunking every second one. So lets see if we can sort this driver swing out and get a handicap!

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

Snuck on for a practice 9 before dark when I knocked off work at 3. Had an even 50 with another three 3 putts. Slicing off the tee so didn’t have many clear second shots but after the lay up was playing quite well on the approach. 4 bogeys and 5 doubles.

Considering I’m in the very early stages of rebuilding a swing after a couple lessons I’m very happy with the progress.

Mite try sneak on again tomorrow if I knock off early enough.

First 9 holes at Cranbourne this arvo where we have joined. My second round since taking golf back up again have mainly just been hitting the range for about 5-6 weeks now.. Shot a 53 which included a triple and a quadruple, a par and a bogey the rest doubles. Was actually really really happy with how I was striking it, only 1 real proper slice the rest were all fades or straight.

I had three 3 putts and just missed a couple of approaches by a fraction causing it to roll off the back and then buggered the chip back up, also went coast to coast from a bunker.

So considering all the shots I left out there was really happy I had several par and bogey opportunities that blew out due to poor play around the greens. My main concern has been how I have been striking the ball I know I can tidy the rest up if I can get the ball down there, so it was very encouraging.

I think sometimes grip is part of my issue with opening the face so will check it out. I do watch a lot of YouTube just because I enjoy it but at the moment trying to just focus on what my coach is telling me in my lessons that’s enough for my tiny brain to handle !

Finally signed up after 10+ years of playing golf sporadically, to a club for the first time ever. Could only get on a 6 day so on the waiting list for 7 day. Have my first practice around of 9 with a mate this arvo who signed up with me.

Hit the range today after my lesson Monday. Lesson Monday was working on swing path hitting in to out. Was using obstacles to ensure i don’t cut across it.

Today at the range had a bucket next to the ball that if i was even just a fraction out to in would hit it. Didn’t hit it once and when I got the swing right was hitting draws which I’ve never seen before in my life. Was plenty of miss hits but working on things that are very new to me so am expecting that until it feels more natural.

    Good progress!

Yeah the old home is scarcely populated at present. A few old hard heads who refuse to leave, but when the place shuts the doors as is expected they too will end up here most likely. Welcome to the new hacienda, there is a story behind this place so take the time to read why it was developed. Good luck with your endeavours to break 90. Rarely do it myself these days, but it is a good feeling. Which state are you based in??? and have a look at the Lets Play thread for the upcoming Nationals in NSW. It’s hoot and a grand way to meat the most of the zanier inmates of this asylum.

Where can I find a thread or two with the info on why this was started up?

I’m based in Vic, south east suburbs to be more exact!
