What a strange game we play

I’ve been playing terribly lately with my previous rounds being
    94
    91
    92
    82
    87
    93

So yesterday in conditions that were very wet underfoot – although it didn’t rain during the game – I took on Windaroo off 7 and had:
1 over 37 on the back for 21 points
2 over 38 on the front for 19 points
75 net 68 for 40 points and my second best score ever
And if I hadn’t hit a terribly pulled PW on the last hole leaving over 60ft to putt resulting in a 3 putt bogey I could have matched my best ever score of 2 over

I had been trying heads up putting but my putting got worse so went back to normal putting yesterday and won’t be trying that again

Two games this weekend at Noosa Springs and Twin Waters so we will see if this sticks a bit or was one of those days

    Hope you can swim:)

Yeah it does look like we may have a bit of trouble on that front!

Hopefully the weather forecasts are as accurate as they usually are and it all works out ok

Nice to see you post a good round – well done Weetie.
Certainly better than my recent efforts. Last Friday at Redcliffe, 30 points with 45 putts! Like trying to putt with a black snake:) Driving issues are history, only missed two fairways, and iron shots good too. Chipping and putting are a ballistic yipfest.
If you want some easy money, you know where to find me.

Continue to hit it great on the range and not so on the course. So much so that I had a lesson for the first time in years.
The problem with practice is that once you get into a rhythm, even with a bad swing, you can hit good shots on the range. On the course with only one shot at it, not so.
Turns out what I have not been doing is just that turning, or more precisely, clearing the left hip. When I was playing my best I almost paused at the top of the swing, and was already starting to use the legs and clear my hip. Apparently all I’m doing now is using the arms which is why I’m getting the weak slap shots and a lot of smother lefts.
Went to Redcliffe straight from the lesson, and aside from a shaky first three holes, I really began to hit it well – even putted okay (changed that too). Played with a Member who had to leave after 12 holes which was a pity.
Playing Gailes this Friday in the Dingo, and then on to Tenterfield for four days. The course is apparently in great condition. A fun country track with good accommodation, and lots of apres activities:)

It was a windy and at times wet Palm Meadows for today’s Matchplay round 1 vs Kurt aka Sandy

It was tight all day although I was never behind
But with a shot on 16 of the holes Kurt was playing solidly and every time I got a bit ahead he would real me in
    1A1A1212 up at the turn
1211 after 13 but then Kurt lost his swing for a couple of holes and handed me 14 and 15 even though I bogeyed them so be 3 up with 3 to play dormy
Then we squared 16 with a bogey double combo and it was all over 3 and 2

What I enjoyed most was that for the majority of the game we both played well and it was very close

Next game in 2 weeks I’m up against another Order member and giving him 15 shots
If he’d been my opponent today he probably would have beaten me (he had 36 points vs my 31)

Next game at RiverLakes is a between game for the Poo

    Don’t win(nie) it:)

Was great to catch up with Ink and Mads yesterday at Brookwater with Pig
Highlight, apart from the company, was a drawn team matchplay
My golf though was terrible and finished with 23 points off 11
Could be interesting at Wynnum on Sunday

    Wynnum is not Brookwater….:)

How you you put the yips into a cupboard? Besides, I’ve a got a cupboard full of favourite putters:)

I wish I had an answer for the yips – they’re still alive in my chipping game, even though it’s improved a lot

Having yips with driver and putter must be a joy!

Driver and tee shot problems largely gone:)

    Well that is excellent news!

Redcliffe is in pretty good shape – greens should be perfect in a week or two. 17th fairway is a bit scratchy as the new turf hasn’t taken too well.

Managed 34 points, and have the card to prove it, as I rushed off to pick up the bride and forgot to put the damn thing in. Not that it was worth anything.

Played great, especially my driving, and irons too – but 7 three jabs and a four jab poured cold water on it:(

Weetie – on a roll mate – well done. You’re almost ready to take me on:)

Mind, nothing much to beat. Played Redcliffe last Friday, and started 3,3,2,3,4, which would have been great, except that was my number of putts. Somehow salvaged 30 points (12&18) in a 30 knot south-easterly. Aren’t the last three holes a test in that wind.

Going back today to give it another crack.

    Played at Hills today
Was as green as I’ve ever seen it – the growing conditions here is Queensland are as good as they can be
So it was great to see it in such good condition – relatively of course
We did have a good storm come through at 2am which dumped 25mm on the course so it was a bit damp – bunkers were out and it was preferred lie as usual so that wasn’t a problem
Greens were a bit shaggy but have a good coverage of grass
    It was very enjoyable

Had 40 for 19 points on the back then matched that with 40 for 19 points on the front off 10, which was very pleasing

Replaced an 8.3 flag with a played to 8.1
No change to handicap at 8.9

Scoring amongst our group of 12 was excellent with the winner having 42, a couple of 40s, a 39, 3 38s – that’s good scoring
    Our group had 42 39 38 38 – I think that’s the highest scoring group I’ve ever played in

Stroke round at Carbrook next Sunday which is the BF Matchplay qualifier so hopefully I play will again

Good round Weetie – you’re on a roll. As for playing with your will(y)……

“so hopefully I play will again”:)

Finally a decent round at a damp Maroochy River
Despite 150mm of rain the course was very playable
But unusually the greens were very receptive – they are usually the firmest we play – and the wind wasn’t blowing too hard so that helped scoring

    3 bogies and 6 pars for a 39 front
2 weak shots on 10 left me short right in some pretty soggy ground and my attempted LW chip went under the ball which popped up right into the path of my follow through which sent the ball sailing high and landing softly about 6 ft from the pin and a good putt meant a lucky par to start the back nine
More pars and then a birdie on 14 meant I was 1 under for the back nine standing on the tee on 17 but a pushed drive that hit the path and catapulted into the water and a 3 putt meant a double and that was the end of my chance to have a 9 hole score under par – I’ve had a few on par but never below
Almost birdied the last but ended 1 over for the back so 4 over 76

    Down to 8.9

    You can do it Weetie!

    Thanks Mads

If I can start playing close to that level consistently then I might be able to move from a telescope into binoculars!

    Let’s see….:)

    Noosa Springs today
Somehow off 9 while Caloundra is 10!?!

Started really poorly with only 6 points after 5 holes
But no wipes and bought it back and finished with 33 points – 15 front 18 back

    2 birdies on 9 and 11

    Not a flag

Last game of the trip tomorrow at Maleny off 8 – hope to have a good round as I’m dropping a played to 10 flag

Good luck at Maleny – the rough will likely be UP:)
