You certainly have achieved a lot here…considering no events have occurred as yet!!!

Shouldn’t your signature be relevant to this forum 😛

So do we start from scratch or carry over a little bit of heritage to here?

Congratulations to the Queensland team who pulled off a come from behind win in this year’s ISeekGolf Nationals State of Origin Championship – securing our 3rd win in a row!

An awesome performance on Sunday where every Qld player scored more than 30 points meant we overtook the Victorians who were in the lead after Saturday’s game

    QUEENSLANDER!

That win was on some other forum, means nothing over here. ??

Well the ball striking wasn’t quite as good today but it wasn’t too bad at Moonah Open. The course was in excellent condition although the greens were surprisingly slow even though they looked schmick.

Finished with 3 over 39 front for 19 and 8 over 43 back for 19 as well so 10 over and 38 points

    9 pars 8 bogies 1 double

8/14 fairways – driver wasn’t too bad today but cost me from a low hook into a bunker on 8 requiring a SW escape

8 GIR – a few poor shots but mostly hit the ball ok. Had a few hooks that made pars difficult but overall not too bad. Dropped 2 shots from a hooked 7i into a bunker left on 13 which left no realistic up and down as the ball rolled way down the hill, a thin PW from the heavy rough on 14 requiring an AW wedge from the same rough next shot. Thin 7i on 15 and hooked 9i on 16 and 17 left extremely difficult pars but I gave the drops to my short game below.

2/8 up and downs – technically 1 bit again 1 was from a bad putt inside 3ft. Dropped 5 shots – 4 from Texas wedges, 1 8i chip on 15 which was a good chip as I was in a difficult position.

36 putts + 4 Texas – dropped 2 shots from a 3 putt (from 60ft at least so the 9i before shares a lot of the blame), and a short miss on 10. Putted much better and made some good second putts after short first putts on the slow greens.

Very happy with the 10 over on a challenging course and got me down to 10.0 handicap.

41 points at Portsea today inluding 3 birdies

Best round in a long time

wow great playing! What was the course like?

It was beautiful. Not a links course – very undulating with many tees on top of rises down to fairways and back up to greens.

I think it would be a real challenge with a strong wind

Forgot to post Friday’s and Saturday’s rounds
Friday was really bad 23 points at Barwon Heads. Beautiful course but the wind was vicious. Nothing much else to say but very ugly.

Better performance yesterday at 13th Beach Beach course in round 1 of the Nats

First – what a course! It’s stunning. Totally loved it. Spent so much time arriving at tee boxes and just going gaga, or coming around a dogleg and wowing out. It was in excellent condition, noting that some fairways had been cored recently so were a bit thin in covering. Greens were much slower than yesterday – rolled out ok but weren’t fast.

I finished with 14 and 19 for 33 points which turned out to be towards the top of today’s scores.

8 pars 4 bogies 4 doubles 1 triple 1 wipe picked up from the bunker

6/14 fairways – driver was pretty solid today. I got lucky on 6 when my huge slice landed on the 8th tee box – almost wiping out Inkosi and Benno_R – leaving me on a path with a shot back to the fairway. Hit some very good drives though. 1 dropped shot from a low hook under a tree.

7 GIR – bit more of a mixed bag in the windy conditions with a few shockers costing shots. But quite a bit of solid shotmaking too. Thin 7i into a tree, plugged 9i and a shanked SW cost me 3 shots.

3/12 up and downs – 2 very good 8i chip and run downs, plus a texas to a foot were the positives. Dropped 8 shots here:
4 LW bunker shots, 1 I almost made. On 12 though I took 4 goes and didn’t get out so picked up; first soft bunker I have been in this trip and needed SW instead of lob.
2 AW chips to 10 long and 35 long
    1 LW pitch fat
    1 Texas too long

    35 putts – 2 4 putts, 2 missed from inside 3ft so 6 dropped shots

Much better today but plenty of scope to improve still

2nd round of Nationals today at 13th Beach Creek today. Started with a slice OOB and wipe. Then improved for most of the round, but doubles on two long par 4s into the wind on 16 and 18 cost me a good score. Finished 18 17 for 35, 86 off the stick.

    8 pars 7 bogies 2 doubles 1 triple

9/14 fairways – sliced driver on 1 into thick grass lost, and a hook on 18 into a bunker 200m out cost me shots today.

9 GIR + 1 7i onto the green after getting out of the bunker on 182 – pushed a SW into a short sided bunker and a hooked 5i into the edge of a bunker leaving me precariously balanced both cost me a shot (maybe JD could have got them up and down but I had no chance). I had a run of 4 bunkers in a row which made scoring difficult mid round.

2/10 up and downs – 6 shots dropped, 3 LW bunker shots (had 5 and got 1 down and 1 was 3rd shot on a par 5), 1 SW bunker shot, 1 AW chip, 1 8i chip

37 putts – dropped 3 from 3 putts – better performance and saved a couple of mid range 2nd putts

Overall better but still a long way from singles and waaaay off par

But doesn’t matter that much because the company was again excellent today – my 4BBB champ partner Commish, Goldy and Koiom

Doubling up on Commish and Koiom tomorrow at Portsea

First round of 2019 Nationals yesterday at Curlewis. Lovely course – thanks peak_sy for organising it and the prizes.

I hit the ball ok with the worst bit being some serious tops.

Short game was terrible. No up and downs and 44 putts. Think I was setting the putter aimed open – I will keep an eye on that today at Barwon Heads.

Yes – I actually watched the announcement when they reached their goal

As you say good on them

Other clubs may have mixed feelings as it’s a tough market

It was in good condition – fairways were good and greens were slowish but in good nick.

Dams are getting very low now though.

    33 points at McLeod – 14 front 19 back

    1 wipe each nine

Driver was wayward all day and had a bad case of the push fades across the bag

Not the way it’s supposed to be played like my 2 playing partners did – but I’m the only one who parred it

Driver I pushed so far that I played a provisional even though there is a lot of space there. But had no trouble finding it and it wasn’t really even close to OOB. Went about 220m but had hit trees. Left about 234m to the pin meaning about a 200m water carry. Was very tempted but decided to lay up – decision took about 0 seconds.

Punched a 9i up to about 96m from the centre which was around 107m from the pin down the back over the hump. SW well struck is about 110m so I didn’t want all of that so choked down and narrowed my stance a bit to take some off it. Pushed the shot a few metres right but distance was perfect as I landed on the top of tge hill, first bounce on top, then it rolled down the back.

When we hot there I was short right of the pin, about 10ft away. Break way left to right and I aimed a foot above the hole. Made my stroke and watched it track nicely to the centre of the cup for a par! Little fist pump and a “Yeah!” and I was a happy camper.

My 2 playing partnersvboth hit big straight drives/3 woods and went for the green in regulation. 1 hooked his onto the slope 40m right on the green and almost got up and down. The other chunked his approach from 145m into the drink and doubled from there.

Played Windaroo today in a between game. The course was in excellent condition – they have used their water well to keep the fairways very well grassed and spongy and the greens in very good fast and firm conditions.

Had 14 points on the front – 10 over the temporary par 35 (2nd a temp par 3)
Had 19 points on the back – 5 over 41
    15 over 33 points

    7 pars 7 bogies 4 doubles

6/13 fairways – 5/9 with driver which wasn’t too bad but did have a couple of bad ones including water on 3 that cost a shot, a push on 12 into a tree, and a hook on 13 into trees. Also dropped a shot from a sliced 6i into trees on 17.

8 GIR – 5 on front and first 3 holes on the back. Overall I hit the ball pretty well but there were still a few shockers with short irons on par 3s that cost me. PW on 2 and 8i on 5 both off the toe cost 2 shots, and a 9i pulled on 18 left me short sided. Overall pretty good.

4/10 up and down – dropped 3 shots here although 1 was as much to do with a topped punch shot after my 6i drew into the trees that finished 40m short. The other 3 not up and down because of those poor PW, 8i and 9i that left me with not much to work with; hit good chips on 2 and 5, and good but long LW bunker shot on 18, but up and downs would have been lucky. Only 1 bad chip – a thin AW chip second shot on the short par 4 6th.

38 putts – this was the difference between the 2 nines – a 4 putt on 9 and 4 3 putts on the front for 6 over on the greens, 1 3 putt on 10 the only blemish on the back, and sunk putts of 30ft, 6ft, 10ft and 10ft on the back nine. 7 over with the flat stick.

Some good signs. Driver was a bit pushy still – but mostly not too terrible. The rest of the bag was decent and hit a couple of really good shots. Like a punch fade approach on 10 that finished 20ft from the back flag, a 9i over trees from the wrong fairway on 12, a nice draw 4h third on 13 that hit the green but bounced over the back, and SW 3rd into the par 4 16th Snake Gully (the hardest par 4 in Oz!) to 10ft that got me a par.

Need to sort out my lag putting and my putts from 2 to 6ft for Nats. Would like to get my driver a little straighter too.
