Young golfers snag fun afternoon in Margaret River

GOLF could appear dull to some people – but not if they witnessed the SNAG children’s clinic that took place at Margaret River Golf Club on Friday.

Children of about five or six years squealed with delight as they ran about the golf course and threw tennis balls at a velcro target. The target happened to be worn by Stating New At Golf (SNAG) instructor Ron Trezise, who joked he would avoid that particular activity in future.

As well as practicing their aim, the young students had a go at swinging mini golf clubs, playing frisbee, and catching balls thrown high into the air.

“It’s all about having a bit of fun,” Mr Trezise said.

While the clinic took place, about 18 junior golfers aged up to 15 were out on the course, playing their regular Friday’s contest.

Mr Trezise said most of these juniors had once participated in the SNAG program and he was proud to see them advance into “real golf”.

SNAG clinics are held occasionally in the school holidays.
